I recommend this to any DM who wants to add depth and flow to their game with less preparation, relying on one word or sentence to prompt their imagination. This companion is neat, organized, easy to use and you can adapt it to any fantasy RPG.
As a player the biggest compliment would be how our DM managed to turn a one paragraph description of a city from the official module into a living breathing place using this guide with unique NPC’s and curious findings, some of which turned into side-quests all on themselves. The city evolved into a busy hub and the party spend 12 subsequent sessions exploring it and returned again later for more and it became the most memorable location of the campaign.
As a DM I have found that you can come up with new and interesting things you hadn’t thought about if you just ask the right questions. The mindset of this guide has helped me prepare for my game but also during play. Asking each player to narrate their character’s dreams, downtime or what happens during travel will inspire more spontaneous roleplay. It is much more interesting for everybody at the table when there is synergy, like when the ball is put in the players’ court and you ask THEM “what happens next?”
