I feel that this product is a step in the right direction, though the first step is never perfect. Many other tweaks would be nessecary for something like this. By spending a class level, you lock off the ability to continue in other trees, Prestige Classes are a bit weak the levels you spend in them. Also for people who are new to D&D might not know too much about Prestige Classes, they will be a bit in the dark seeing there is nothing telling them what they are here. Sure, some of the features are great, though you must realize that you may be giving up a lot to even dip two or three levels into these (Yes I realize that the flavor on these are amazing, however I feel there is a line where you still need to keep yourself mechanically on par with your party.). For constructive comments on this product, I feel to make these, will require more looking at other related level features and try to have them make up for the features you lock yourself out on, which is no easy task seeing they may need to have some way of scaling with total level, rather than only class level. Finally, maybe there should be a rule on how spellcasters would benefit from this. From the way it looks right now, it locks them off from many spells if they think about using one of these.
