the only thing I would change is adding rules for lactose intolerance and Cow's Milk Allergy (and yes, there is a difference). It's so close to 10 out of 10 for me, though, that I am rating it as such. Also, side note to people planning on running this: Ask your players if they have any phobias before you decide attractions or even decide to run this. I was going to include the Snake charmer attraction, but realized that 2 of my players had Ophidophobia, the fear of snakes. If I had had players who had severe coulrophobia (fear of clowns) or, heaven forbid, galaphobia/lactophobia/lactaphobia (fear of milk), the adventure would probably be right out. However, if you have the right group of PCs with the right attractions, this looks like it will be a blast to run, maybe even more than once. This is an edit, because the other concern I had about the adventure was addressed by the author: adding the files for the maps for easy printing. edit 2: On going to print off maps, I noticed there's no map for pavilion of fun, but that should be simple enough to draw up, I think. edit 3: On our second playthrough of this adventure they ran into a milk mime. I discovered that I couldn't do what the milk mime was intended to do, which was cast cloud of daggers and wall of force simultaneously, as they were both concentration spells. I had to fudge it a little to work, especially when the party's first response to being put in a wall of force was to try and disrupt concentration of the spellcaster. This was likely a small oversight on the part of Justice Arman, but I am still rating it 5 stars.

Hi Mark! Glad you liked it! While I don't have rules for Lactose Intolerance, I can totally upload the PNGs of the attractions. I'll get that handled this week. Thank you for your idea and positive review!

Hi Mark! I've updated the zip drive file. I'm not sure how I missed the Pavilion of Fun! I've updated the zip file to include that location. It's one of my favorites. Thank you, - Justice

Thoughtfully written and udderly grotesque, Justice did a dairy good job articulating how to make your party's skin crawl. Written to accomdate the needs of your party, you can skim the contents to include attractions that will have them saying, "holy cow." This adventure is a whole lot of fun, and not just because of the milk puns; for these reasons and more, I highly recommend, "Step Right Up."

Creepy as all hell and I loved it! This one is going to leave a real impression on your players. It may also alter their feelings towards clowns and dairy products, but this is the price we sometimes pay for art.

I enjoyed it, I altered it to fit my homebrew world and followed the general story of Step Right Up and tied in some of my own villians to it. For it being a one shot it seemed like too much, like when I reviewed it I didn't think my players would fit it into four hours, so I cut some of it out. I recall the dunking booth being a favorite and the Demonic Milk Overlord. Like what I did was I made it a Blood God Festival that these Gruumsh worshippers have every year and instead of having a "host" of council members I had "one" mayor that hired "The Adventurers" to be her security for the evening. That was just me considering the time to introduce NPCs that I made that decision.

It's difficult for me to articulate just how good this adventure is.

Step Right Up steers clear of overused horror tropes and without spoiling anything manages to give the players and their characters an experience that is legitimately unsettling and creepy without resorting to jump-scares or graphic depictions of upsetting content. The best way I can think to put it is that the author has done an amazing job of delivering something that feels sinister. In addition the formatting of the potential encounters means that the adventure as written has a ton of replayability and even if you don't intend to re-run it in it's entirety you can probably lift some elements you don't use in your initial play through and drop them into other games.

I can't recommend this adventure highly enough. Objectively fresh and good horror content is hard to find in gaming and Step Right Up is the gold standard.

Justice has put together a solid spooky package that's great for halloween season but can be used any time of year.

The amount of detail and love put into the content of the pdf really shows. Everything from how to pull off effective horror to guidelines that keep things fun for your players and DM.

I ran this as a one shot and maybe only touched on about 30% of the content. There is just so much to do and see before and after things get a little crazy that the title has a ton of replayability.

My players hate milk, so this adventure was the perfect thing to creep them out and keep them on the edge of their seat!

Step Right Up is a disturbingly entertaining adventure for your tier 2 party!

  • Original story, creatures, and items
  • Modular adventure design
  • "Sandbox-on-rails" playstyle
  • Thematic layout and formatting
  • Easily-scaled up/down difficulty

For all these reasons Step Right Up is highly re-playable, and it's section on the effective use of horror in any TTRPG makes it a great reference book for your collection. Check out my video review for an in-depth look: https://youtu.be/hUuKzZhTmDw
