A strong module to run, with good flavor. It helped that my party hated the main villain and had background ties to Morgrave.

The flashback works well if it is run very cinematically and sort of as a railroad. The DM should take a firmer hand here and add, not pull, punches. These characters are meant to die, and the scene should take less than 30-45 minutes. The DM needs to proactively manage pacing for this section for it to play successfully.

Morgrave is well developed. I enjoyed the nerdy dating scene, though I will say it was awkward to initiate, and my players liked generally exploring the college town I built around it. There is a lot of room for improvisation and development in this module. The library infiltration scene stands out for a great encounter table that asks for some real on-the-fly roleplaying.

A note on the power dynamic, I read the male student as more of a TA/grad student with some teaching responsibilities, and the other as a fellow grad student or advanced undergrad. This is pretty distinct dynamic from professor/student, but I can present the nuance pretty well since I've been through academia and understand the environment. The module also makes it very clear that the other party is actually quite into the NPC already and the quest is more a result of his overthinking things / nervousness than an attempt to gaslight someone. I think the module handles a dangerous topic well and keeps itself on the fun side of the line. But whether you can present this to your group in a proper way is definitely YMMV, and the thing can be skipped without much incident. A way to hint at this plot but bypass it is to have the players give him a "be yourself" pep talk and avoid direct interference.

Pacing wise, a combat encounter could be a good option instead of the romantic roleplaying challenge, due to my other critique below. Maybe a book the scholar needs is kept under magical lock and key, and the players have to activate a security system to bypass it? This then weakens the party for the setpiece encounter.

The combat was a bit of a dud, but this is a general issue I have with 5e combat. The system is designed for multiple small encounters, but more often than not an adventure has one large setpiece battle instead. I think it's presented as well as a combat like this can be, but without multi-combat attrition it's hard to balance an encounter between "super duper deadly" and yawn-inducing. I prefer that modules have a mix of social, skill-based, exploration, and combat encounters. Overall I think this hits about right, but I found the single combat to be a challenge to run effectively.

I quite liked the worldbuilding and presentation of this module. We had a lot of fun, but keep in mind that we're playing this as a home game where we aren't under a strict time limit and have the luxury of exploration.
