This is a book of random encounters. The overview describes the intent "to complement the Ghosts of Saltmarsh adventure anthology", but it no more serves that goal than any other random encounter generator might. A table at the start of the book catagorises the encounters into twenty each of town, coastal and aquatic themed, but only one of the sixty makes any reference to a Ghosts of Saltmarsh character (and even that's an entirely superficial connection), and none correlate to any particular event or location specific to Saltmarsh. It appears this is branded to capture the eye of DMs hoping to expand their ideas beyond what's in the GoS publication, which it could be used for, but promoting it as tied to Saltmarsh is entirely misleading.

The presentation is polished and of a professional standard throughout but, if you were looking, as I was, for this book to add additional depth or flavour by extrapolating ideas from the official Salthmarsh campaign, you will be very disappointed. As I was.
