Hi there,

Starting a game recently and using this table. One thing I've noticed and dislike is some of the "out of character" references like with the 'holodeck' ruin my immersion. I would love for all effects to be lore-friendly and in-character with no cheeky references.

Furthermore, some effects can really just straight up kill your party or end your adventure at lower levels. Maybe have some effects scale with the player level to prevent you from wiping a party at the start of the adventure with an unlucky roll?

EDIT: Thanks for your reply!

I appreciate you getting back to me. And indeed you can't please everyone. I do believe there's a place for humor and fun effects in D&D, provided they stay in-character. For example, some of the original table has fun effects like pink bubbles coming out of your mouth, or hair loss. That's the kind of comedy I am fine with, but for example the effect for rolling a 1 on your table:

"1 ...as you finish casting your spell, the universe fizzles out around you leaving your party standing in a huge room with grid patterns on all the walls. A voice comes from nowhere, "Damn it, Blakes. You crashed the holodeck...AGAIN!" Then everything returns to normal and you say, "WHAT WAS THAT?!"

That's something that is not part of the game and it's multiverse, and could never be explained or researched. Or:

115 The caster suddenly knows the entire bus schedule for Spokane, Washington in 1974.

Those are some things that break the table for me and prevent me from using it. I think you should post a warning on the front of your page: Warning, some of this table is not lore-friendly and has out-of-character references.

I would pay extra for a lore-friendly version, by the way.

As for tthe balance, looking at this for example::

50 Each creature within 30 feet of you takes 1d10 necrotic damage. You regain HP equal to the sum of the necrotic damage dealt. I love the idea of this, draining health to heal yourself. But I'd loathe to wipe by entire level 1/2 party with this. Maybe make it scale with levels:

Each creature within 30 feet of you takes 1d4 necrotic damage per (1 or 2) caster level(s). You regain HP equal to the sum of the necrotic damage dealt.

As for being able to edit things myself, that is true, but also a lot of work, which is why I bought one instead of making it myself.

Sorry you have some disappointments. As a former stand up comedian I learned you can’t please everyone. I did the best I could.

Also keep in mind, you’re free to change any of the onles you don’t like to meet your specifications. Just open the table and edit them to your liking.

This project was really more about functionality and less about content (as users can change and even ADD their own things).

I appreciate your feedback and I do hope you’ll reconsider the 3-star rating.

ThanX!
