I've always liked the idea of adding more culinary options to D&D. There was an Unearthed Arcana for 5e that included a "Gourmand" feat that filled some of this fantasy, but it hasn't made it into official rulebooks yet. There's also the expanded Tool Proficiency options in XgtE that really enhance the Cooking Utensil proficiency.

That being said, I tossed a whole Canadian dollar toward supporting and I don't think I was let down. This document suggests some fun basic framework for adding a kind of group cooking challenge to your adventure, either to fill some unique quest requirements or to incite a creative group exercise. I liked that the core mechanics of preparing a fancy meal could become a full party effort and there are some fun examples provided within.

I think lacking from the document are some more examples or lists of potential ideas to really inspire some meal ideas. It would have been nice to have a couple of example lists of beasts and their ingredients, or unique ingredients one might find growing in a dungeon, or even what kind of meal would even come from goblin meat. I know a lot of that might be up to the DM, but some fantastic examples would have been nice, just to get the creative juices going. The examples provided within are fun ("mandrake tempura" and "almond-crusted Quipper fish stuffed with basil squash and dire crabmeat"), I just wanted to see some more of those. Nothing to use specifically in my own adventure, but the author clearly know's about cooking and it would have been neat to read more about those fantastic ideas to add more inspirational flavour.

While the core mechanics of the cooking are great, it would have been nice to see some example difficulty check numbers to prepare some meal items. Just some random ingredients, like maybe the DC check for flipping a giant egg omelet is much higher than cutting crab meat. Something silly in there. There's also no suggested optional buff elements depending on if you succeed or fail. Maybe it's being left up to the DM to provide said benefits or maybe cooking is it's own reward, but a couple of example suggestions would have been nice.

Those nitpicks aside, I'd love to use the meal cooking mechanics provided in this document in an adventure or potentially wrap a whole one-shot around the idea of acquiring ingredients and cooking a meal for an angry ogre or demanding royalty.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll definitely jump back in and add some example meals and meal prep DCs. In the meantime, allow me to refer readers to Delicious in Dungeon, the manga that inspired these mechanics. It's got tons of amazing dungeon-themed meal ideas.
