This product had everything I needed for my campaign. The pdf has searchable text and it is possible to copy and paste text from this product, (something that I find very useful since I use DmGenie software for my DM-ing.) In fact a pdf like this is even more useful than the original booklet. It is easy to navigate through and can be stored on my laptop, which I'm using anyway during game sessions. The document has helpful bookmarks and it is possible to add comments of your own. (At least in my version of Adobe Reader 7.0).
The maps are of good quality and can be printed out easily. All the pictures (and maps) in the module are in black and white, but so is the original book. An exception is the front page off course.
The story itself is close to a classic dungeon crawl, not of my favourite stories and it does lack connection to the other adventures in the series. There is none obvious connection to the “Sunless Citadel”, or the “Speaker in Dreams”, other than that the character level match.
The adventure seems well balanced and the encounters are challenging both for combat and role play. Nice!
The starting town of Blasingdell is poorly described though, nothing like you find in adventurers like “Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil” where Hommlet is very well fleshed out. In this adventure you have to use your own resources to create Blasingdell. The NPC’s in this story are in most cases only briefly fleshed out. Mainly because they are meant to be dealt with quickly I guess, I do miss more depth though, and I guess that is up to the DM to breathe more life into them.
The price is always an issue on pdf files. It would probably sell a lot more if it was cheaper, say $5. But to be honest I found this particular pdf well worth my money, even though it is only 36 pages.
All in all this is a good product.
