This module was super fun to run! I ran it for a group of players playing for the first time who wanted to dip their toes into D&D without getting too crunchy with the system or game mechanics. They love mysteries, so I found this one to be the perfect game for them for some Halloween fun! Jesse has included a lot of wonderful materials in here, and is super responsive via Twitter too if you need anything at all. I 3D printed out two of the STL files and they ended up being super cool and my players LOVED them. Overall, my players found the mystery to be pretty easy and they loved all the little details in the house! I decided to flesh out some of the details in the bedrooms especially to really give it that nostalgic/old farm family feel. (Nothing tests your DM skills like having to improv what else is in the chest in order to reward the nat 20 your player just rolled or improvising farm history when they ask more about the farmer's almanacs!)
My only concern was with how linear the combats were, all of them are just the one enemy so the fights were pretty much just back and forth hits between the PC's and the enemies. Jesse kept the damage pretty low overall for the enemies and encouraged you as the DM to modify as you see fit. For the last fight, I wanted the big bad to hit a bit harder and last a bit longer in combat, so I modified some of the damage and abilities to be a bit more obnoxious. All that being said, I really enjoyed the custom enemies and the flexible template Jesse provided!
I think this adventure would be an EXCELLENT sidequest for an existing campaign in addition to just being a oneshot as it's designed. I think the best places to build on this adventure would be to add more social interaction to tie it to your own campaign, flesh out the details of the house and possibly customize some of the items/books in the house to be more relevant to your world, and to tier the baddies to whatever difficulty you prefer for your players! Also, if you're looking for some more dynamicism in combat, I would definitely add a few extra enemies (that maybe still hit with d4's if you're worried about damage). Maybe other toys come to life, maybe some some books/sheets/etc become animated, etc.
Overall, I loved the adventure, found Jesse to be a fantastic resource for any customizations and feedback, and would definitely recommend it as a sidequest or oneshot to run!
