I enjoyed the mechanics for how the fights and the far realm energies came into play The final boss was really cool with how strong it could be The wandering monster is nicely done I ran every single S10 adventure and the way that the Thuunlakalaga clan was ended here (and the unavoidable death of their leader) felt cheap. This rating reflects MORE about how the entire storyline was ended than anything.

I have run all of the season 10 adventures, so naturally I wanted an opportunity to run this one as well. I ran for a mixed group of players, some had done all of the Plague of Ancients adventures as well, others had a few under their belts, and others hadn't done any.

What I liked: The non-stop combat sets a tone for the adventure that Wyrmdoom Crag is really under attack. The complications by 2 previous story awards are nice to see.

What I didn't like: The combat didn't feel super hard, I ran it at very hard for a party, and ended up combining the Tier 2 and Tier 3 combats to give the party a challenge. Certain sections don't feel super complete, the Far Realm maw needed stats. I really really don't like that the Chardalyn corruption didn't come into play in this adventure (or anywhere, that's really disappointing for the whole season). I also think the relationship between Kaskur and Ogalai should have been incorporated into the encounters. But the biggest issue is the ending. The ending takes all agency from the players, Kaskur dies, Oagalai dies, Suuk saves the day. This was really unsatisfying, I ended up changing the ending to give opportunity for the players to save Ogalai. It made a huge difference in their enjoyment of the adventure. Some sort of ending rewrite to involve Ogalai, Kaskur, and Suuk more as well as have the characters impact the very ending would be a simple change to really improve this one.

As a wrap-up to season 10, this was a very disappointing epic. As a standalone epic series of combat encounters, this was a lot of fun. Even for the latter, however, there are many much better epics out there; this epic is just a linear, very long series of fights. While I ultimately was able to enjoy it for the strategic combat, I completley agree with the many people I've heard complaining about this module being a slog and a poor wrap-up for the season.

I largely agree with Addy, that this Epic was an extremely dissatisfying conclusion to the Season 10 AL storyline. This mod added nothing but mild confusion and distaste to the conclusion of the Thuunlakalaga story, and completely denied any sort of catharsis to characters that have played the other modules.

The Epic was very combat focused and did offer some interesting tactical encounters, but some of the custom aspects of the encounters were overtuned even for T3. At multiple points there are saving throws that remove characters from play which are literally impossible to succeed for a large number of characters. Though I would not be shocked to see this sort of encounter balance in Tier 4 play, it was frustrating in low Tier 3.

The most redeeming quality of this Epic is the use of atypical antagonists, but beyond that I truly cannot recommend this mod for play at events or for single tables.

If I could describe this epic, I'd call it "A Kaskur" because it boasts of an epic ending to the storyline being told from T1 all the way to its conclusions in T3. But in the end, it's nothing but a big old pile of disappointment. The rest of the review has some spoilers in it so be forewarned.

I bought this mod hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the Season 10 storyline but in the end, none of it mattered. I wish I could get a refund for the module and I wish I could get back the time I wasted playing because despite all that stress and tragedy the epic puts your PC through, Nothing of Value was Gained. The Magic Items rewards are probably only useful for trade-fodder between your own PCs (or you have druids who wears heavy armor), you get no interesting story awards for having played the epic, and the fate of the Thuunlakalaga tribe is pretty much "Wait, that's it?"

If you came in the epic having played NONE of the previous S10 modules and have no idea who is what and their significance to the story, this no-resolution-ending is tolerable. But if you did, like I and the rest of my party who played all S10 modules with the same group from T1 to T3, just ready yourself for the non-ending. Even if you succeeded in all the encounters, the ending is still a bleak, hopeless, aimless one. Oh and the one thing that does acknowledge previous module story awards punishes the players. FANTASTIC /s.

There is no exploration, there are no social encounters, it's one fight after another with no time to rest. You don't get to confront or save any of the NPCs, they're just there for you to watch them die. Which would be fine if this advanced the story somehow instead it just cuts everything short and leaves all these loose threads blowing in the icewindale wind. If this was just another module, I'm sure DMs could put their own spin to them and give a much more satisfying conclusion but as it's an epic, it has to be what is written. And what is written amounts to the storyline equivalent of the NPC Kaskur.

If all you and your group want is combat, this epic will provide you that and then some what with the enemy creatures from Ravnica and Theros and Wildemount being thrown at you. Just hope your rolls are excellent because I saw some players spend 3 rounds doing nothing but try (and fail) to make multiple saves against multiple conditions that effectively lock you down.

tl;dr - get/play it if you just want to hit things.

If you care about the NPCs, let me spoil the ending so you can decide if you want to skip it or experience it: the Thuunlakalaga tribe ends up leaderless with no idea what to do next and whether they'll survive with this power vaccuum.

Firstly, this epic is extremely focused on combat, almost to the exclusion of the other two pillars. As I like to run combat-focused adventures, this is great - but it would be useful to DMs and players to be forewarned about this aspect.

That being said, the combats were challenging with exciting mechanics especially in Part 2 of the epic - I particularly appreciated the use of statblocks from non-AL sources as it gives seasoned AL players a novel challenge.

I ran this for a T3 table with moderately-optimized players and found Part 2 to be a lot more challenging than Part 3, which is essentially a boss fight against a single monster. More optimized players may find the final boss to be a walkover. Although this epic did not come with the standard rules against lengthy spellcasting found in some other epics, I found it helpful to restrict the use of such spells at my table as it makes sense given the short time frame between each combat encounter.

The scripted ending was a bit depressing although DMs with a delicate touch can certainly impart a lot of pathos into the scene. Players who have not experienced any of the Season 10 modules may not care much about the NPCs however.

Overall a solid combat-oriented epic with great flavour and fun new monsters which I enjoyed running very much.
