We ran this during our Waterdeep Dragon Hesit game, it and fit right in as a entertaing and unique side quest. I ran it pretty much by the book, but its designed in such a way it can be a shorter adventure, or one thats more focused on NPC and envionmental interacton. There are plenty of fun combat encounters too.

Using everyday items as weapons, some of them magical, was very fun. And deciding on the fly what cold be used as weapons or tools makes for creative puzzle solving.

The adventure has 2 factions you can ally with (The intellegent rats and mice that live in the manor) but I felt the situations you run into really lean toward allying with the mice, who are considered "good." Since the rats can speak common I felt they would have offered some more intereting NPC interactions and choices. Consider making the rats more nutrual at first if you run the game to offer more options to collect the mcguffens required to beat the adventure.

The highlight of the adventure is hands down the final encouter... which mixes a exciting battle with a alchemy puzzle that feels like you are racing agaist the clock.

Overall we had a real good time with this module and it offered a setting no was expecting! Recommended!

If you wish you check out our 3 part video series of us palying this adventure, you can check out part 1 here!

This adventure is really, really good. There's only one problem: There's almost too much adventure here.

Let me explain: This book is a hefty FIFTY THREE PAGES describing twenty five rooms for your players to explore. In theory, this gives a lot of replay value as well as control over adventure length (as the players only need to assemble the four maguffins and take them to the wizard's lab to be free, and maguffin locations are left somewhat up to the DM by design). It also makes it hard to keep track of what is where because again, this book is a friggin beast.

Here's a question: The players walk in the front door, starting them in room #1 (so far, so good), then follow the butler. Where does it lead them? It's not very clear, and it took me some puzzling, but I think the party moves through rooms 1, 2, an unnumbered hallway, stairs up, 14, 17, and finally to #18, the dining room. This is the typical beginning of the adventure, so why did I have to work it out myself? (And why did I have to call an early 5 minute break while I frantically worked it out at the table? Ugh!)

Another question: The players enter the first floor western hallway, room #7. Text is read describing labels on the seven doors leading out of this hallway: Stairs, Washroom, Portrait Gallery, Larder, Servant's Exit, Servant's Quarters (2x). Which, the players ask, is which? Again, after a bit of headscratching I think the answer is: Stairs (unlabled), Washroom (#8), Portrait Gallery (#6), Larder (#11), Servant's Exit (unmarked, it seems?), Servant's Quarters 2x (#9, #10).

... You kind of get my point, right?

This is not to say the adventure isn't good: The character of Alzaban is a great antagonist whom I greatly enjoyed playing (and probably should have had taunt via illusion more for my own entertainment), the mansion is interesting and varied to explore. There's three factions going on in here for some fun minor intrigue. And the quick conversion from big to small (just swap feet -> inches) is friggin brilliant and I don't know if I could come up with it myself even though it's simple enough it seems obvious in hindsight.

But it's just also tough to navigate, and I found myself at a loss every time my party asked where they could "go from here". Having run it once, and since added some sticky notes to my pdf, it shouldn't be near the challenge the second time around but do know for me my usual amount of prep didn't feel like near enough. ):

Hi there! Thanks for the review! That's great feedback. I'm sorry to hear there were some issues with the flow. One of the largest challenges in writing it was trying to anticipate the most logical way to describe any given area not necessarily knowing how the characters got there. I can definitely see how it could get disorienting. The idea was to make it flexible for parties that didn't go to the dining room first, but that caused me to sacrifice some clarity. I might include a section detailing a sample route characters might take through the house in future editions to alleviate some of these concerns. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

This is one of those titles that feels like an adventure from a bigger publisher but at a fraction of the price. Great adventure, good art, clearly laid out. Very fun take on miniaturized characters. Would recommend.

This adventure is so much fun. It has cleverly constructed combat encounters, interesting NPCs, puzzles, exploration... there's just so much. The titular Mansion is enormous and the adventure is laid out in a non-linear way so that you can play out the quest differently every time. It's written for a 3rd level party but it's easily scalable for lower or higher levels. The adventure rewards a party that looks for creative solutions, so it's not just all about CR ratings and XP. Also.... it's 53 pages of original content (with illustrations) for only $1.99?!?! You should be checking this out.

Very fun adventure that is very well encapsulated. I think this would be rather easy to slot into any campaign and would make for a good session or a few between large story arcs. Some of my favorite things about it are:

  • Inventive encounters that add depth to the sessions: not everything is traps, puzzles, or fights. I particularly like the last encounter and the billards encounter.
  • Very flexible: players can play their way, and their are choices that can be made that effect later encounters.
  • Varying length: As a DM, you can change some subtle details that can allow for this module to be shorter or longer.
  • It's just playing cool! Who deosn't want to be small?

I think as a DM running this, I would definitely find some way to ensure my party had little to no gear, and had to make do with what they find in the house that is size appropriate. I also think this module is fertile ground if you wanted to spend some extra time to make it your own!

I would make sure you read through the rules well and prep the last encounter well, as it would likely be harder to run if you were trying to run it on the fly.

All in all, really love this adventure.

A very fun and imaginative adventure! Superb care put into the "little" details and clear instructions to help DMs. I enjoyed the unique illustrations and will recommend this to fellow players and DMs.
