My players loved this module. It deepens the horror of the storyline and the introduction of the Souljoined was a great joy for all at the table. The use of the Chardalyn Arrowhead changed the dynamics of the table and the player who took it really leaned into it. It made the rest of the module so much fun.

This adventure has a mix of murder mystery roleplaying, hazardous exploration, and a solid combat at the end. Some of the other reviewers have done a good job of describing some of the issues with the mystery part of it, which are complaints with which I'd agree.

This was a disappointing module to run. It feels conflicted in the core design. This adventure builds a lot on top of DDAl10-01 and DDAL10-02 in terms of the Goliaths you interact with, (Rikuur the goat herder showing up in DDAl10-02, the politics of Wyrmdoom Crag, and the murderer). But if players played those adventures then the murder mystery is SUPER trivial. My players took a look at the crime scene and said **** did it right away, and that it was probably related to the Chardalyn. It felt like the module wanted to set up this red herring, but the evidence for the killer was so strong and in your face, especially if you played the previous adventures that there wasn't any mystery to this murder mystery. And if the players at the table aren't familiar with the previous adventure, then the hooks regarding Old Goat, Souljoined, and Windsinger along with Frostclaw don't entice their involvement in the module.

Going to the cave built up a lot of excitement for the party though, they were to here to defeat Frostclaw, and maybe meet Feral-Tongue! But then neither one showed up... The party was so convinced that they were here to ambush Frostclaw before she came back to the cave (because the module kept teasing Frostclaw's appearance in the journey up to the cave) that I had to take a minute to explain to them out of character that is not how the module goes. If this wasn't adventurer's league I would have just had Frostclaw appear to give them the payoff they were looking for, but they were instead very disappointed by the chase sequence.

The chase sequence that didn't happen, a clever use of some AOE spells by the party Warlock created a barrier for the Chardalyn Mephits that sat at the cave entrance and just blended them as they tried to cross it. This gave the party enough of a head start that the chase sequence was wrapped up quickly without tension, and then the party fought a random monster outside of Wyrmdoom Crag. They were unsatisfied, I was unsatisfied, and I had to convince them that "You definitely fight Frostclaw in the next adventure, I promise" to keep going.

On top of all that one of the rewards is just some thematic reskinning of armor and weapons, but the module doesn't say how the armor was modied by Goliaths, it just points to a table that doesn't have an example that is relevant. So that is very unsatisfying as well. Weakest part of the seasonso far.

Divining Evil is an interesting module with a lot of good options that can add some variety for any DM running the game multiple times. TLDR: Great adventure if played as part of th Plague of Ancients series, Not great if played as a standalone acventure. Review may contain minor spoilers... ...

... ... This module introduces some great new NPCs to the story, that are all well written and provide some interesting roleplay options due to the plot at the start. I think my players could happily have spent much longer interacting with them and I hope they appear in future modules. However due to the way the NPCs are introduced and the interest they have in the main plotlines resolution, the ending of the adventure seems a little bit abrupt. I would advise maybe allowing a little more time to roleplay the closure with those NPCs the party interacted with (dependent on your players investment in the NPCs).

Divining Evil feels like a chapter in the larger story which is great if you are playing "Plague of Ancients" in the chronological order, but it doesn't work as well when viewed as a standalone adventure. As a standalone adventure it is less impactful, the crime has already occured, you may learn what happened, you set out to deal justice and then don't get to serve any justice. One player at the table commented that the adventure has more ending than "The Return of the King" and essentially at the end of the adventure the players have still not resolved anything.

The options in part two of the module are a very nice way for a DM to customise the experience at the table so that a varied player group can have a good encounter. Your party contains lots of ranged specialists and spellcasters, they have an encounter for you. Perhaps the party is made up of brawlers and healers, the encounters have got you covered. A party of diplomats and negotiators, well there is something in the encounters for you too.

Overall this is a good module, but due to (my perception of) its limitations as a standalone adventure I can't give it a perfect score.
