For a two hour module it fit the bill with only a minor hiccup - The DC for the physical tasks was far too high for the party I had (mostly dex-based fighters and mages) even with all of the NPCs helping it was tough to make enough successes. It took them three tries and they nearly gave up even before the carcass was out of the water.

They did better at keeping predators away (and mimics) although that was a tough fight for Tier I. Towards the end I could tell they were getting tired of the cycle of Roll a skill check - fail - recieve punitive result. Some other options might have been useful. Overall, however, we had a good time running and playing this adventure. It was a nice change of pace.

I checked this one out and I've just finished running it with a very weak party (3 players APL 2)

Overall, I really enjoyed it. The premise was very unique, I doubt any of my players have tried an adventure with this subject matter.

The combats and the encounter adjustments could be expounded upon a little. I had the presence of mind to check the encounters against the Encounter Builder before running. A DM needs to be particularly wary of running this adventure with a super weak party. The "rowboat" encounter could be especially lethal.

The harvesting did get a little repetitive. I would either break that up with some sort of other encounter in the middle to keep up the tempo. Brenda I enjoyed, but she was indeed a bit of a random add.

I did notice a couple odd things with a check here and there. A Medicine (Survival) check? The checks don't follow the established convention, but I at least they're consistent with each other aside from the aforementioned.

The overall presentation of the document was fantastic, the imagery worked well in tandem with the template, and I thought it all was well thought out. I look forward to seeing your next piece.

I bought this module because of the theme and the details, and I was not disappointed! It’s packed with real-life information on whales and whaling. The module is also whimsy and have some random interactions which are fun to explore.

With a five-player party, we spend exactly two hours. At the same time, they avoided one of the combats. The combats played longer than written, so we had to catch up by cutting the exploration and roleplay, which didn’t give the NPCs the role they deserved.

The harvesting felt a little repetitive, with little real interaction on the story. The DC to detect the thin ice changes through the adventure, which made me uncertain of when it came into play. I’m leaving the adventure a four-star rating because while we had fun, in the end, it felt a little flat, whereas players often expect a rise in excitement towards the end. Brenda was simply so annoying they considered just throwing her back in without interacting anymore, I wish she had a firmer connection to the story and that the players had an incentive to return her.

Next time I’m running this, I will present the threat of the animals from the beginning, and maybe add a hook to search for Brenda (maybe only she knows the password to the safe). I love the setting of the adventure, the deadliness of the combats (which forces the players to make smart choices), the illustrations, the environmental effects, and more than anything, the science, which in my opinion makes the adventure unique.
