Our DM used this supplement to end our Curse of Strahd campaign and I am so glad! While I appreciate that CoS was built as a gothic fantasy-horror and that the original ending was meant to reflect that with a bittersweet ending, I vastly preferred this ending. I was surprised that the original ending did Ireena so dirty. I felt that this module gave Ireena a much more satisfying ending that validated her as her own person rather than just a reincarnation of Tatyana. The best part of this module was that it allowed players a way to actually destroy Strahd permanently. Even though the original ending does a great job of instilling the feeling of horror and hopelessness it aimed to by making Strahd's death temporary, I personally don't want to feel that at the end of a campaign. As I player I want to feel like my character made a meaningful difference rather than someone strung along by fate with no way to change the outcome. I play D&D to escape reality, it is a bright spot in my life especially in a time where real life feels dark and helpless. The ending for this expansion gave the campaign the bright spot I love in D&D. I would highly recommend this to any DM who is looking for a brighter ending to CoS!

DM was able to seamlessly add this into our campaign both because he's awesome and the module just works really well for the campaign. The final battle was super satisfying and had that extra layer of depth, kind of like when a video game boss is almost beaten and then they have a second form and you go !!! and pull out all the stops. It just felt more intense and high stakes than another battle with Strahd. We had a lot of fun figuring out the ritual and deciding what vessel we wanted to use. When DM let me flip through this and the campaign book after all was over, it was really cool to see all the possible options and ways vessels could end up, complete with statblocks! Agree with other reviewers that this made for a more satisfying ending, too. Magic! Rituals! Choices! Unspeakable entities, bound! Epic final battle! Cannot recommend enough.

This is an excellent expansion to the Curse of Strahd campaign. The original CoS ending is frustrating...players may spend a year or more trying to destroy Strahd and free Barovia only for the Barovians to mostly stay where they are and for Strahd to return. I don't think I would have been happy to end CoS on such a dour note, but fortunately The Ritual of Amber does not let your players' efforts go to waste. The expansion is lore-friendly with a lot of great suggestions for incorporating clues about Strahd's dark secret thoughout the base campaign. The author also expertly utliizes well established NPCs to make the connection between the Ritual of Amber and the base game. This module also emphasizes player agency, and gives you a big choice with regard to the vessel you can choose to make Vampyr mortal so that you can put a permanent end to darkness over Barovia. I think anybody running Curse of Strahd should heavily consider getting The Ritual of Amber.

My DM used this expansion at the end of our CoS campaign. He was easily able to incorprate it into the campaign. It's really well thought out. I liked the overarching plot it added. Finding out the information about the ritual felt really natural as well. The ending feels so much more complete when you are able to finish off Strahd and Vampyr. Seems super lame to go through such an epic campaign only to learn Strahd is going to come back anyway. This is a must have module for CoS

I used this supplement as the final fight in my two year spanning Curse of Strahd game. While I found it quite late in the campaign and wasn't able to use most of the information gathering (which is excellent, featuring suggestions on which characters and locations could serve to let your players find out about the ritual) I was easily able to incorporate it into the game and have an amazing final fight. The added pressure of the ritual really made the players focus on the fight as more of a battle of who has the biggest numbers.

In summary, this is a 5/5 supplement, with it being easy to run, very lore-friendly, and providing an epic conclusion to an epic campaign.
