I'd like to divide my review on a few sections; presentation, content, and value.
Presentation: Full of beautiful pieces of art, the supplement is nicely formated and easy to read. It is very professional and will look good in print (and the creators graciously have a note on page 2 of the supplement giving permission for making a print copy for personal use).
Content: With 13 subclasses, including one for Artificer and for B. Huffman's Pugilist, players of any class (except Monk) will find something to use. Three of the subclasses in the book feature use of a new Rune Magic system which is detailed on it's on system. There are some very fun runes in there. They're all based on Giant runes. I hope in they future the system is expanded for runes from Dwarves (my number #1 pick), Elves, Infernal, etc. The supplement also has a chapter dedicated to Equipment and Items you'd find on the Frozenfar, including flora you could find on the area. Lastly there are 4 Appendixes. One has Survival Rules, taken from the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master Guide, all nearly compiled in one place.
Value: For $14.99 you're getting a lot of value for your money. While the supplement is aimed at players who will be playing in the Icewind Dale, the content is very setting agnostic and can be used in any setting with cold climate with little tweaking needed. Also a lot of the content can work for adventures set beyond cold climatea, i.e. a Relic Seeker can be in search of artifacts anywhere. Lastly, even though the supplement is a Player's Companion, the 5th Chapter and Appendixes are very useful for any Game/Dungeon Master.
Overall, I highly recommend this supplement to Players and GMs/DMs alike. Pounds, Huffman, Leiser, and Picket did a wonderful job on this and I'm sure they all had fun crafting this. I hope they'll collaborate on similar products in the future.
