This new version really tidies up the previous work Mercer put in on this class. Having it posted in such a way that previous customers had to re-buy it was rather disappointing (I just bought the original 2 weeks ago!), but at least the profits are going to charity.

I'm loving the changes! At first I wasn't too sure about the wis-int switch but I'm on board now. I think the last iteration was too split between the 2 stats so since the general flavor of the class is a knowledge-based arcane hunter it is more streamlined to switch to int. Problem is before I was only interested in Lycan, now I don't know which subclass I'll take! Thanks for the hard work, Matt

I like the class but i do not like theintelligence change... wisdom is far more important to the theme of the class imho being a Hunter. makes the class extremely MAD since you now need 4 decent/good stats.

in addition, subclasses are badly balanced imho. lycan is far better than profane soul for example... you get bonus to attack and damage, fantastic resistencies to non-silver, more speed and so on, while profane soul gets to reroll 1 and 2 on a already bad damage type.... extremely low spellslots and the limited warlock spelllist does not helpp... ghostslayer is better too. some core features like psycometry or resistence to charme and fear feels like a ribbon at their level. they arrive too late to be usefull and waste a slot of a good feature. also the change to saving thriows is not great cause dex and int feels far less themed than cos or wis or str ... overrall it's an improvement but imho there is a lot to do to balance the subclasses because right now there is no reason tonot pick lycan or ghostlslayer if you want to be optimized and profane soul need a lot more love imho. i would look at EK and AT subclasses as inspiration, maybe expand the spelllist, add a slot or a warlock invocation... something cool and strong! but at the moment if i want to play a martial-caster hunter a simple EK/ranger seems better and more thematic, and i think that bloodhunter profane soul should be a better witch hunter than a EK/ranger aa

Love the updates to the class and can't wait to play it. 4 Stars is only for formatting. Copying and pasting has no spaces and is a nightmare to add all the correct spaces.

Overall, love the changes. Great job Matt!

Edit: From 4 to 5 stars. apparently the issue was with my PC or something, not being able to copy and paste correctly.

While I greatly appreciate all the balance changes that went to the features, the subclasses and the curses, I gotta say that change from Wisdom to Intelligence just drags the thematic of the class overall. While me and my friends agreed that Wisdom was somewhat convinient when it came to the power scaling of the class as a whole, it made sense for the fantasy and what a bloodhunter was attempting to achieve in terms of roleplay. Intelligence while not a weak class by anymeans, it becomes very limiting when it comes to things like multiclassing, skill selection, and roleplay. This is atleast my opinion.

Four words: Intelligence-based Martial Class. Greatly improves on previously weak mechanics, and adds to the already interesting ones.

I've been playing a Blood Hunter for the past 2.5 years and have absolutely loved it! And this overhaul takes the things I love about the class and rebuilds it into a tighter, more thematically appropriate class. Matt has done a great job creating something that's a tremebdous amount of fun!

It simplifies the rite self inflicted damage and does make some good improvements, but the flaw I see with the class it switch to Intelligence. I will homebrew it back to Wisdom.

I love this class! This is a good revision. Matt takes alot of the original concepts of the older version and refines them. Mutagen scores, Crimson Rite, Maladicts all have been stream lined and tuned in this latest version for ease of use.

The Orders: all 4 are still here (Profane, Ghost, Mutant and Lycan). Once more it's clear that much care was given to make the class easier to understand at a glance. Make no mistake, I still believe the class to be complex. But it does so in a more intuitive way here. The difference between complex and complicated is a fine line, Matt walks it with grace here.

Whats New?: Brands! While the fluff and flavor seemed a bit vague and muddy, the gameplay mechanics seem very interesting. Each order gains access to its own uniqe augmented brand giving a certain effect. These are a welcome addition to the class and i was happy to see some exclusive perks due to order choice. Curses also make a return and just like the brands each order has an exclusive offering.

Why just 4 stars?: just a few nit picks here and there.

  • Art in this iteration while there is more of it seems inconsistant, like a rough draft. the originals cover art was more evocative and less cartoonish. But deeper in the PDF the art depicts a more realistic piece.
  • While i welcome the addition of brands i think they could be explained a bit more both lore and gameplay wise. Admittedly i may just bave to reread the section to fully grasp it.
  • Matt explains that he changed the classes secondary stat from WIS to INT, stating that "hemocraft" seemed more arcane in nature. This really doesnt effect much mechanically, but i enjoyed having a wisdom based martial class. With options like; Gunslinger, Eldritch Knight, Arcane Archer and I'm sure the upcoming Echo Knight are all INT based Martial classes/Archtypes. I just prefer the WIS basis more appealing. I havent read through carefully enough to know for sure but i think i plan to still use WIS as my secondary. At first glance i dont believe it would hamper any of the new effects or revisions. So yea 4 outta 5 from me. Worth the pick up if you like the class, are a fan of CR or just want a different class that allows you to toy with your own life force as a resource.

An update to an amazing class from an amazing creator.

And the proceeds go to a good cause.
