I was in my third week of DM-ing a new campaign and I wanted a puzzle that would be difficult but fun. So I had this puzzle lay behind a room that contained 7 doors. When my party entered, they couldn't leave until they'd solved the puzzle.
My party took 2 5 hour sessions to figure out the puzzle and escape and it was so much fun!
I ran this as the first color to be stepped on was the active color tile and the only 'safe' option. If a member stepped on a tile of any other color it vanished beneath their feet and they fell down into the tiny cage below. Our bard got stuck in the middle of the floor and ended up playing musical delights to inspire the rest of the party to continue. It was so much fun watching my group figure out how to get one and other out of the 10ft holes they found themselves in as well as complete the puzzle so they could escape.
Would really recommend if you're lookng for a unique puzzle to throw at your companions.
