This Adventure has a strong start & manyopportunities for players to explore & choose what direction they take.

Both times I hosted this game setup were different based on what the players choose to interact & follow.

The NPC's featured are very flexible & the progression of the main games plot easy to interpret. This Adventure will be featured many of my games in the future as it's setting, tone & the SisterHood organization pairs well with many story lore. I recommend that if your a Game Master looking to spice up your hosted games & want to use a guide line to challenge players & get them to roll skill checks, saving throws & attacks in creative ways then the SisterHoodof the Blade does the job

This adventure provides a very comprehensive introduction to D&D, especially when run as the 4 hour option. From overcoming obstacles, to understanding effects and conditions, to combat and finally actually completing a mission outside the "training environment", this module has it all.

The author is also very approachable for questions.

My first two sessions running this adventure, were also my first two sessions as a DM AND I am just a few months into playing D&D. Had fun running it and from the feedback from my players, they also had a great time.

Some folks, might find the organization of the PDF document a little un-intuitive, but my understanding is that it was the requirement of the CCC program in the season this was published.

A couple of helpful notes:

  • The training warehouse his used for both the Basic and the Advanced where the same two rooms are utilized for the main and bonus rooms of the Basic and Advanced courses respectively.
  • I prefer to use the left room for Room 1 for Basic/Advanced and the right room for Room 2 for Basic/Advanced. This might require you to change how you describe the doors for the rooms when the players initially walk in.
  • My first couple of times running it, I didn't pay enough attention to the "Wrap-up: Concluding the Adventure" section. Please read that carefully as it will allow you to make the adventure more immersive and fun, in my opinion.

Would 100% recommend to new DMs and for new players.

I recently started dming for a new group that is a mix of players completely new to D&D, players new to 5e, and experienced 5e DMs. And we all had fun. The DMs in the group all intend to pick up this module as a way to teach the game to new players. This is the only adventure I have played that explains the game mechanics of D&D as part of the storytelling. This made it super easy for the new players to ask questions about how things worked in character instead of feeling like they were breaking the experience of the game by asking about the rules. More importantly the additional content provides a chance to experience less common elements of play such as complex traps, and resistance/immunity to certain kinds of damage or effects. If you are looking for a module to teach new players or just something with a less intense combat at low tiers this is the perfect module to pick up.

I got this as part of the Doctors Without Borders charity bundle. I just completed running the adventure for some totally new players - 3 people new to rpgs, and 1 new to 5th edition D&D, and 1 who had played one session of 5e with that character before. This adventure is great for new players, though with the steep learning curve of learning the game, learning online play (for me too as a DM), and learning their characters, I feel this adventure really helped. There are some very basic play concepts introduced, and enough of a narrative to not make it seem like it's just an exercise. The players all had fun, which I attribute as much to the adventure as to my DMing. It took 3 sessions of 2 hours (with lots of explaining and troubleshooting technical difficulties). I originally intended to do the 1 hour version, but a new player joined in the 2nd session and I felt it best to give people lots of time to learn.
A significant amount of time can be spent at the training centre if doing all the bonus content, which isn't a bad idea for people very new to gaming and D&D. Issues I encountered with my group include them trying to rp, but not in a way that would move the story forward (e.g. trying to gather clues but literally not asking any question that would provide an answer related to the story, and me also wanting to avoid railroading or just letting dice rolling dictate things), and interesting tactics during the final scene. My choices were made based on the people playing and may not be an issue for anyone. Highly recommended for new players as my group are looking forward to the next session.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a detailed review and thank for buying the charity bundle. I'm very glad it helped get some new folks on-board! If your group is interested in encountering the Sisterhood again in less training-based environment, please check When Mages Fall (Tier 1) and Fiendly Competition (Tier 2).
