Arkadia - The Greek Setting for 5e
Publisher: Arcana Games
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/04/2019 07:04:21

Arcana Games delivers a whallop of a punch of new content in just 101 pages. That is right - you get a setting, new races, new classes, new feats, new gear, and new spells all in 101 pages - something that the big kids sometimes need four or five books to fit everything into. The new race variations - Volcano Dwarf being my top pick - and new classes - Barbarian Path of the Hero - are stellar, and do so much to add to even a regular Faerunian set 5e game.

Arkadia could easily be a different plane where players go when they die, or perhaps a lost continent on the other side of Toril. All I am saying is that this book is absolutely worth every penny, and to close, my friend Wiatt was most psyched about their Triton feat which, in his words: "You can actually fight with a trident now and not have it suck."

Party Backstory Generator
Publisher: Severed Books
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/04/2019 06:52:21

The Party Backstory Generator is soon to become a staple in any of my games, regardless of system or setting. The PBG takes away that first few awkward hours of connecting and finding a way to integrate your PCs and characters together through often hastily-made ideas, and instead substitutes in a few minutes of rolling, basic lore development, and interactive fun into building your party.

Gone are the days of having the generic bar fight to introduce everyone - now you can have duos or trios or even the whole party already knowing/knowing of each other before the first session starts. This allows for beautiful and immediate gameplay that instantaneously weaves a tapestry of story and fun to make sure the players now feel truly engaged.

Strings, Songs & Stories, The Bardic Colleges of Kozakura & Wa
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

What the Mays have made is a beautiful and engaging supplement that brings players back to the old familiar lands of Kara-Tur buried behind the eastern mountains of Faerun. Strings, Songs, & Stories shines in the fact that it functions amazingly as both a roleplaying game supplement and as an educational tool to teach students about the music, instruments, culture, and stories of the Asiatic world.

With all of the new abilities, spells, colleges (Kabuki being my personal favorite) and call-backs to older editions of D&D, what Ashley and Isaac have made hits two big winning points in my book as a soon-to-be-educator: fun game mechanics, and easy-to-refurbish into lessons or units in a classroom. Overall, a stellar and amazing creation!

The Linguist Class
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/03/2019 14:31:05

What Zac did when he created the Linguist - cause he must have had me in mind - was create a magic-based class that actually made me want to play a magic-user. The Linguist offers an amazing new set of class options and spells that accentuate and bring a new taste of roleplay and combat to the table - especially in roleplay. Very often I like to play as Charisma based characters, but often as magic-users, Charisma is relegated to simply be for casting spells, and that is it. While that does bode true for the Linguist, your Charisma has a direct and highly important impact on your spellcasting and effects.

With the Linguistic Emphasis and the various Discoveries and Words of Power, you truly feel like an unfettered badass as you walk through an encounter literally talking people to death or subserviance. The only thing I might want to see in the future is perhaps how this concept of the Linguist could work into other classes as well - a barbarian who has Path of the Howling Wind and has insane jibber-jabber that drives people nuts, or a paladin with Oath of the Word or something like that. Otherwise, a stellar and fantastic product.

The Chosen Ones: Part 1 - Waking the Wizard
Publisher: RATHSQUATCH Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/03/2019 14:17:31

The Chosen Ones: Part 1 - Waking the Wizard is a fantastic homage to company fantasy epics like The Sword of Shanara, The Wheel of Time, The Belgariad, and Dragonlance. With a wonderfully fleshed out world and beautiful cast of well-developed NPCS, what Robert has managed to fit into a little over 120 pages is something that most designers can't fit in 300 and make it flow well. The encounters are interesting and invigorating, something new and alive seems to eminate from them.

However, the book does struggle in a few places - at points the mediocre maps rip you out of the story, and at points lore dumps and story in general can bog play down. Formatting choices could have been made differently with tweaked fonts or an exchange of backgrounds.

Those issues aside - WtW is a valiant and fun adventure, and that is what matters. You can tell that it is a project of passion and was made with excitement, adventure, and teamwork at the core of it.

The Hunger from Below
Publisher: Wayward Rogues Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/05/2019 10:57:01

With elements pulled from various adventure-horror films like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Mummy, and others, The Hunger from Below perfectly meshes traditional dungeon crawl adventuring with an intense sense of urgency, suspense, and haste. Your players NEED to help the town, your players NEED to survive - it is a quest of NEED versus WANT, and that shows in the gameplay. If you want to give your players an intense challenge, something they will not forget, than consider using The Hunger From Below.

The Guide to the Cult of Shub-Niggurath
Publisher: Wayward Rogues Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/15/2019 09:10:50

Elisting a feeling of terror, dread, and primal fear, The Guide to the Cult of Shub-Niggurath is an excellent addition to any game that is looking to truly implant that sense of occult gore horror. With inspiration from Lovecraft, Hellraiser, Spawn and Hellboy, this supplement adds new gameplay mechanics that flesh out (pun intended) the utilization of the occult in RPGs. For instance, the Larvel Progenitor option for the Alchemist is both disgusting and interesting at the same time, a halfway point between Maggot from the X-Men, and Venom. Overall, definitely a need if you are looking to add a heaping pile of morbid to your game.

Revanchist Hybrid Class
Publisher: Wayward Rogues Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/10/2019 07:54:56

The Revanchist is a perfect merge of edgy action-adventure hero and noble paladin. It reminds me of many of those character tropes you see in various mediums; the Shield Hero, Drizzt Do'Urden, Zorro, and other heroes on the path of vengeance. However, while some characters who fall into this category can often become at odds with the party, Wayward Rogues has developed and built a hybrid class that allows for synergy and advanced roleplay options that go beyond Edgy McEdgelord and allow for a multi-dimensional player-character. Unless you want to to the Edgy McEdgelord routine - that is all up to you. Overall, I am more than prepared to roll up a Revanchist character when I get back into Pathfinder.

Mechromancer Core Class
Publisher: Wayward Rogues Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/22/2019 12:41:01

The Mechromancer class supplement does the perfect job it set out to do - to make YOU, the player, feel like a Gundam or Transformer or Jaeger or Titan - without compromising balance mechanics. With unique systems for building and developing your own mech, this supplement takes the potential of the Technomancer and beefs it up with some classic 80s and 90s anime/cartoon-inspired giant robot energy. For players who want to add a major cinematic feel to their games, but stll kep it easy to manuever with and inline enough with what the GM has in mind, then definitely snag yourself a copy of the Mechromancer.

Cult of the Wendigo
Publisher: Wayward Rogues Publishing
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/17/2019 18:27:13

Cult of the Wendigo offers a unique take on the terrifying Native American myth - expanding the legends and stories that surround the monstrous flesh-eater into something greater than a simple entry in a bestiary. One part setting, one part quest book, and a whole hell of a lot of frigid Nordic horror, Cult is a must-have for anyone who wants a new kick in their game - whether they be in a frost-rimed mountain setting, where villagers are being stolen for grisly sacrifical rites to appease the wendigo, or to offer a new diety for a player to worship or bond with.

Endless Realms: Corebook
Publisher: Lunar Games Inc
by Cameron D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/22/2019 09:10:31

I did a full video review on Facebook for my podcast, but I will be more than willing to share that here as well. Endless Realms offers a unique breath of fresh air in a massive - and sometimes asphixiated - RPG market. With the powerful concepts of the Spirit World, the multiple different levels of planar adventure and supernatural adventures, Endless Realms supplies that want in all of us to go beyond the base world in a game and explore the outer cosmos. With original races, massive facelifts to old class concepts, and a world and universe that is thriving and alive, this game is fantastic, and I can't wait to see it grow.
