Mages of High Sorcery

Date Added: 09/30/2023 02:49:37

Another great product by Marco & Marco. This is a must have for everyone who wants to run a Dragonlance campaign. Magic and Moons have always been one of the central topics in Dragonlance, the way magic is affected by the moons is one of the most unique aspects of the world of Krynn. Thanks to this book DM and players will be finally able to put this essential rule in their games. The Test section is also very cool, it’s a part of the lore that some DM might be tempted to skip, but thanks to the advices and tables in this book it might become an important part of your campaign. Last but not least, a lot of useful NPC, you never have enough of good NPC, they are well build (mechanics in Sign of the Dragon’s products are always top notch) and I really appreciated how those NPC are related to the Tower of High Sorcery but still generic, so that you can use their stats for the NPC character of your choice, depending in which age of Dragonlance you decide to set your campaign.

Fallen from Heavens

by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/07/2023 02:31:38

Fallen from Heavens is a great opportunity to use fallen angels in your games, this book covers a lack of evil celestials seen in the official products and allows the dungeon master to use a new set of villains, each with their own peculiarities and theme. Every fallen angel in this book is very different from the other, their never seen before traits and actions are very dangerous for the player characters and it will help to create memorable encounters for the players. In an ocean of poorly and amateurishly realized products that is DMGuild nowadays, the products by Marco Bertini and Marco Giulio Fossati are an happy island of quality and professionalism, both for content and graphics.

All the products are edited in a very professional way: rules, text, images and layout. This bundle it's a true treasure trove of new ideas, monsters, races and magic items. What I really appreciate is the all new ideas for magic presented in: Of Warlocks & Patrons, Quest Spells & Other Divine Magic, When Magic Goes Wrong..., these supplements give truly a kick to the official rules, making magic more unique and magical, instead than almost scientific like on the PHB, they offer options and new ideas for players and DMs who want a campaign that feels more different but that still feels D&D. But rules aren't everything: Thieves' Guilds, So, You Walk Into A Tavern..., Realm Events, Candlekeep's Tome of Books helped me to shape my Forgotten Realms, they all help to shape your world, to make it more real and alive. Not to mention they're great resources to make up things on the spot, something that every DM will have to do sooner or later. Monsters need a section of the review all for their own. As Ravenloft lover I immediatelly fell in love with Volo's Guide to Ghosts, I think that the Ghost and Specter in the MM are not enough and this supplement has truly helped me to shape a beautiful encounter in my most recent Ravenloft adventure. Same thing with Acererak's Guide to Lichdom, Undead Monsters and Born to be Kobold!, it'a amazing how from a single monster the authors managed to give so much variety of types, both from the tradition of D&D and from their minds, I have to thank them for the final boss and his minions in my Ravenloft campaign, it felt more special and unique having monsters different from the usual, and it's the perfect way to surprise those players who already know monst of the monsters in the MM. Last but not least: Vault of Magic (I & II) and Fumbles & Fails, they give a lot of new magic items to surprise your players and the fumbles are super funny, and a good way to keep the combat more interesting. Just be sure that all your table agress with the use of fumbles.

Undead Monsters

Date Added: 07/03/2022 10:11:48

Let’s face it, monsters are never enough, a DM need always new threats to challenge their players, and this book delivers the challenge. Undead Monsters offers a wide variety of monsters, both new and from older editions we long time players felt missing in 5th Edition. Heucuva, Zombie Lord, Blazing Bones, just to name some of them. And the new ones are scary as we... hell! Take the Zombie Many Eyed, the foul crossbreed between a zombie lord and an undead beholder! What really impressed me tho, are the new mechanics for undead swarms, imagine ghost armies and zombie hordes that your high level characters can fight and your low level characters must flee, but without the pain in the … to have many creatures to deal with as DM and instead having only one that represents many of them, whith rules done better than the hordes as explained in the DMG. Last but not least, the graphics and layout are wonderfully done, as always the products from Sign of Dragon show a high level of professionalism both in content and graphics.

Date Added: 03/28/2022 12:01:03

Forget the bland and nameless tavern or inn you, as DM, have to imagine on the spot when your players randomly want to go in a tavern. With this supplement you can make in a moment a memorable tavern full of life. This booklet is full of random tables to create taverns and inns for every social class and give them peculiarities and an unique flavour to make them unforgettable. It will give life to your tavern by designing the personalities of the staff and other customers and by creating entertainments and special events inside the place, such as gambling or even brawls. Tavern Brawls also have their rightful spot inside the booklet, with new rules for it. Of course you're also free to pick up the voices you prefer to carefully craft the cozy tavern that will be the base for your PCs between their adventures.

The War for the Throne
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/21/2021 01:48:38

A non railroading adventure at all, there are many ways to move forward within it and it will lead players to make choices and feel in control. In addition to a compelling story for players, this module is also a small expansion for DMs, inside there are new magic items, spells and monsters that can also be used in other adventures, plus you can also find well made NPCs. (not only unique NPCs but also reusable minions). Everything is enriched by an excellent care for the layout, excellent internal images (each NPC and monster have their own image) and maps made with care and full of details. Although the adventure is the continuation of The Second Black Dawn (if you haven't taken it I recommend it) it is still possible to play it as a separate module thanks to the rich recap and even if being set in the Forgotten Realms it is possible to adapt it to any other setting.

La Guerra per il Trono
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/21/2021 01:44:42

Underwater Campaigns
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Date Added: 08/27/2021 09:43:33

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Underwater Fantasy But Were Afraid to Ask

This supplement will bring you to uncharted waters, the deep below will take life thanks to the huge amount of lore about the deepths. You will find explanations about the extreme rich and various seascapes you may encounter, the magical zones and the portals open underwater, the resources you can find and the cilizations you can trade or battle with. But travelling underwater is not easy, there are as many dangers and hazards as you can find travelling by land, if not more. And a lot of ready to use random underwater encounters for CR 1-17 your DM can throw at you. Even sailing has become more dangerous thanks to the wide variety of diseases sailors can catch (spoiler alert: bring lemons). In a fantasy world magic is an crucial aspect of life, as above so below, and new spells and magic items are at the grasp of adventurers, plus new ways to use old spells underwater. Combat gets its fair share too with the new variant rules for a more realistic and three-dimensional underwater combat. But then you need foes to fight, luckily there is a whole selection of new monsters and npc to battle; don’t expect to find just the classic sharks and pirates, you will find fiends, dinosaurs and vikings who turn into seals. Underwater Campaigns is really well written and full of good ideas, the layout makes every chapter very easy to read and understand, the selection of beautiful internal and external art is very inspiring and all these elements put together shows how this supplement is realized by pros and stands out when compared to a lot of other products present on the Guild.

The Complete Hag
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/28/2021 07:49:44

This is certainly one of the best products on the DMS Guild.

This book is a "complete hag" in many ways, it shows an incredible variety for hags and makes them more deep and complex characters. If you are an old school player and you miss the old "Van Richter's Guide to" this is the book for you, very well written and with fantastic illustrations

The complete hag shows how to make hags more powerful than the average ones presented in the Monster Manual, plus new kind of magic like Moon magic and Sigil Magic, but this book it's not only about stats, there is also deep lore inside, about how hags live and even reproduce, about where they live and all the kind of lairs they could have, from graveyards to cute cottages. There are even a lot of useful tables to build random encounters with hags and their servants.

Two of the coolest chapters of this book are about magic objects that hags can donate (called Gifs) and use (called Weirds) and create (Witch Fingers), they are obscure and dangerous, and oftern made with bodyparts, the perfect magic objects with that sense of darkness that was missing since the times of The Book of Vile Darkness for 3E. A matter apart are Witch Potions, they are magic items that give you permanent effects, mutations...but power comes for a price.

The last chapter is the Bestiary, you can find new hags with their own stats, to add more variety and surprise your players plus a lot of new monsters, all dark and twisted, perfect menaces for a dark fantasy campaign.

Thanks to its deep lore, brilliant ideas, beautiful layout and illustrations The Complete Hag is a professional product that enriches every D&D game.

Sword & Sorcery MAGIC
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/07/2021 00:56:43

Now, this is really an excellent resource for those who want more Sword & Sorcery and/or less Vancian Magic in their games. This alternative magic system makes magic more mysterious and evocative and less "mechanical" and "scientific". It is a very good system for playing not just sword & sorcery but also settings where magic is all powerful but very dangeous to use (one example I can think of is Shannara).

There is only two small details I'd change and are:

  • the random spells for first level wizards, as player who loved Wizard since BECMI edition I have to say there is nothing I hate more than not having control over my spell list
  • the ban over invisibility spell, I don't see it as a "superhero" spell but it's something very common in fantasy magic, I'd keep it.

In shot terms this is a great resource for those players and DMs who want to change magic system or want to make their homebrew world more unique, plus I believe you can even use both magic systems together, this one and the official one. Giving this one only to some classes to differentiate them, for example I see this magic system more suited for Sorcerers and Warlocks with their raw power opposited to the scholastic way of learning spells for Wizards and bards. Same thing with Clerics (official system) and Druids (sword & sorcery system).

The Complete Hag Annex I
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/05/2021 10:48:58

I'm very happy to have got this book, The Complete Hag Annex I has nothing to envy to official books, the layout is very neat, you can't see the difference with a professional product, and the internal art is amazing. It makes you understand you're reading a book edited by people who know their job. After all if you look at their other books you immediately understand this is not the authors' first rodeo.

The new rules for hag spells and rituals are brilliant and perfectly represent the lore of hags breweing concoctions in their cauldrons or waiting for the right day to cast a spell, I love how the author gave a list of the most common spells a hag would use making their magic dark and mysterious by leaving aside the most flamboyant spells like Fireball. The Hag Spell Theme is the cherry on top for those DM who want to create a special NPC or villain for their adventure.

Then let me tell you, as European, how much I love the author brought some folklore back in D&D. The chapter about Hag Gifts and the appendix about Iron Allergy bring back the tales people shared at night about dangerous creatures lurking in the night. Hag Gifts are the perfect way to give some magic objects to your players if you, like me, run low magic campaigns, they're not flamboiant and their peculiarity is that they have a story behind them...as well as consequences for using and even accepting them. The Iron Allergy is fantastic, if you like The Witcher you will love this optional rule, as I already said, it brings european folklore to the game, making the players be more careful when they shop for equipments. I really hope to see more of these additional rules towards other kind of monsters like Fiends, Constructs and Undeads.

The New Monsters are very cool, they add the Auntie and Grandmother types seen in The Complete Hag to Eberron, Curse of Strahd and Baldur's Gate Descent into Avernus. I seriosly reccomend you to switch the official stats with these ones, it will make the encounter much more interesting. And I love how the author solved the boredom of encountering many Stirges where you have to fight one Stirge at a time by transforming a large group of them into a swarm.

The last pages present Hags as patrons, following the new rules in Tasha's and I'm totally planning to use them in my current campaign while my players should meet a very powerful hag.

The Essentials: Sidekick Sheets
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/08/2021 06:56:50

These sheets were obviously made before Tasha's, before Sidekicks were meant to have 20 levels, I understand it. But right now they're pretty useless at mid-high levels.

The fact that there is not a single fillable sheet it's a problem too, I understand they were meant to be printed and used IRL but right now it's almost impossible to play live and a fillable sheet to keep as a pdf would be extremely useful.

There is no a skill list, which it's essential for sidekicks, especially the Expert.

And last, if you're going to make a product to be used with D&D 5E you should call things as they're called in the game. Ancestry means nothing in D&D 5E, the word you should use is Race. At your table you can use the words you prefer but if you're going to publish something for everyone you should call things with the name used in the game to avoid confusion.

Personally I think the official sheet is more useful than this one for sidekicks.

The Complete NPC
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/30/2021 09:47:23

It's one of the most useful products here on the Guild. It adds so much to the npc section in the monster manual, these npcs are perfect to be used as aliies but especially as foes. With this product you can build whole guilds of artisans or thieves, knight orders ( mundane or magic), cloisters and temples, armies, city watches, courts.

This book is for you if:

  • You're tired of using the same old stats for npcs and you want to add more variety to your game
  • Your party has often troubles with the law and you need npcs chasing them
  • You want to create more fighting encounters with npcs than monsters
  • When you need in a hurry a victim to be pickpocketed by the Rogue of the party

The subsequent chapter about mounts is brilliant as well, you have a lot of different types of mounts that, I believe, should have been included in the Monster Manual, because they're essential. Luckily this book solves the problem. You have camels for deserts, lizards for the underdark, stingrays for underwater, and also more variety for warhorses.

Chapter 4 gets very very interesting for those DM who miss all the details of 3.5 edition. It will explain you how to mix the stats of an intelligent monster with a npc . This is just perfect for that special villain you were looking for, the one who stands above the average of his/her race. In the example the author builds a Rakshasa Archmage but you can combine whatever you want, like an Oni Gladiatior or a Wight Knight.

Last but not least, the layout and art are extremely curated, a good layout and good art make me see the care and efforts that have been put inside a product. A product with those two elements can be considered a professional product and stands above the mass of bad quality, amateurish products that recently flooded the Guild.

Vault of Magic
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Italo I. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/22/2020 03:10:21

I really loved this supplement, the thing that struck me is how the two authors did not create a handful of objects that give +1 to one and +1 to that other with high-sounding names, but instead wanted to donate to each object particular effects. Among these magical objects it is possible to find really everything, from shields that "charm" to potions that make you dream your desires. These items are perfect for surprising players, whether you have them found inside a treasure chest or want to make the PCs sweat for them, placing them in the hands of the opponents in the group, for use against them. before they can be conquered. The objects are first presented in 3 tables to divide them into Common and Uncommon, Rare and Very Rare, Legendary, while subsequently they are listed in alphabetical order in order to be easily found when needed. The spells section also offers a rich list for almost all classes: Druid, Ranger, Wizard, Cleric, Sorcerer and Warlock all receive 6 to 4 new spells. Spells make the sense of uniqueness of magic really good, giving strange but useful effects, such as Batlearms that makes you grow 2 more arms to attack enemies, or Seek the Stream, very useful for finding drinking water and orienting yourself. Here too we have a division that resembles that of the Player's Handbook, with the spells first divided by class lists and then shown in alphabetical order with the explanation. The entire supplement was created with Homebrewery, a faithful tool of many creators, but with a modified layout to be much more elegant than other products created with the same medium. The images are those made available by the DMs Guild, but the fact remains that some, especially those made by Dean Spencer, are really very evocative. In any case, they are all well positioned and fit very well with the description of the magical items they have been associated with. Vault of Magic is a very interesting product for those players and DMs who are no longer enough with the items presented in the Dungeon Master's Guide and want something different and unique for their campaign. By purchasing this product you will receive an avalanche of magical items with unique properties that will really make you feel the sense of magic within your campaign.
