As much as I loved the classic video game feel of the previous modules, I really enjoyed the switch to a Blade Runner style, and my players loved it as well. We did the 3 hours of the session doing only RP and exploration and it went over huge with half of the players getting the Blade Runner references. The only thing they were disappointed in is they wanted to dismantle the entire "Psym" system and free all the Psyms, and I just could not fit that into a 4 hour session.

For the final battle I switched it to a Tron motif which also went over very well. It was thrilling and dangerous with the highlight being I managed to kill the Sentinel barbarian who didnt let the dragon get away and received shadow breath to the face as his reward.

The exploration potential in this module is one of the top three I have ever run and it reaped big rewards from my players. The RP potential is also great and the battle can be very satisfying, I would recommend this for pretty much any group.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to leave this review! A lot of people mention the "Psyms" and how they want to free them, who knows, maybe one day I'll revisit this!

This adventure is a TREAT for both the GM and the players - leaning hard into Blade Runner both in aesthetic and theme makes for a delightful romp through a thoroughly well-crafted story filled with moral complexities and complicated alliances.

True to form of his previous adventures, Anthony turns player agency up to maximum here, with combat situations being extrapolated to the point that the sky is quite literally the limit when it comes to how to resolve them. This could, in newer, unexperienced GMs hands, create a problem at the game table, but Anthony does a great job of conveying not only the mechanics at hand but the intent behind them so it's easy to grok why he's written the scenario the way he has, and leaves GMs room to interpret the situation into whatever methodology they find most comfortable.

The story and characters are varied and colorful, and the inclusion of all of the art assets enables you to really paint a picture for the players that makes following along not only easy, but desirable and stimulating.

I'm not knocking a star off for it, BUT: the final encounter may not be balanced adequately based on the standard "very weak-very strong" scale - the dragon breath attack is a strong potential one-hit-KO for many characters who are below the optimized APL of 8 (since it kills outright when a character drops to 0), and the "Weak" bracket (being the thing you will likely encounter most often in a mixed party larger than 3-4 characters, as is common in AL) does not account for this adequately, since the attack is still available at the outset of the fight and is almost certainly the first thing the dragon will do given the opportunity, particularly if the party rolls poorly on initiative.

GMs (and the author) might consider simply applying the Potion of Heroism effect directly to every character by default when they enter Ios, rather than give them a single potion to use, or tune down either the damage or DC on the breath weapon - something in the range of DC 15, and/or damage in the 40s. Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky in foresight as I don't play PCs enough to have a strong grasp of their HP ranges, and I obliterated two of them on the spot, and prompted the other three to quickly high-tail it out of the scenario, leaving Ios to their fate.

All that said, I do want to reiterate that this is an EXTREMELY high quality adventure, well worth your money and time. It's full of great ideas and even makes me want to make a cyberpunk psionic character now. :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed review! As for the final fight, I do not disagree with you. It’s purposely an intense and dangerous fight with the dragons breath weapon. However, the multiple endings account for this. Without spoiling anything, I intentional made a design to ensure even in defeat, the PCs aren’t “punished” (see The “Death Cannot Free You!” Ending). Cheers!

Ran this as a one-off for my group when a couple of players were missing. We all loved the weirdness, the cyberpunk themes, and the quirky NPC's The art is fantastic, and the adventure is very well written.

Just a superb adventure, with a very cyberpunk/shadowrun feel rarely pulled off in D&D.

Would love to see more adventures set in Duerradin. It's such an interesting setting.
