Honestly, pretty well designed overall, haven't tried all the classes yet, but none seem too overpowered or underpowered. Also the spells and items really fit into the thematics of the classes. Overall a job well done

Dark Archetypes is SLICK.

It looks slick, and the spells they offer in here aren't just edgy BS - there's a lot of cool ideas that I haven't seen in 5e before. Power Word: Obey. Wow.

The archetypes may be a little powerful, but that's to be expected from splats. I didn't see anything game breaking, and every effect and spell that's in this book in the hands of a DM will make for some INCREDIBLE bad guys.

I'm going to definitely use these for my BBEG and his minions next time I run 5e.

Yeah the content is definitely worth the pricetag, even just for the new spells. The morality system giving tertiary power as your players descend into their depravities was really cool too. Incentivised Roleplay Hooks. Yeah this thing has it all

The product offers a good amount of inspiration but it's not balanced and not fit for player use. Some features are way too overpowered while others are utterly insignificant and slow things down. Spells suffer the same fate too. Magic items are somewhat fine but be careful and think of weird synergies before you give them to your players.

I've been follwing the development of this beauty for a whike and can definitely is worth the price. You get more than youd ever expect and the people who made it truly just want to let players have fun. Just ask them. If your dm is scared of power dont let your players anywhere near this though cause all of a sudden the creativity bomb will be too much for their railroading. This pack is truly the next step for dungeons and dragons and wizards should be proud that their game allows such creativity as this. Oh and if you dont trust a random stranger then what about the president of the largest Collegiate club in the country? Go knights and go watch jojo.

I have been looking for something bigger than the two evil classes handed to us in the DMG for a good few years now, and I am happy to say I found it within The Dark Archetypes. The Author has done a great job on keeping each subclass interesting and even balancing out some issues other subclasses in the PHB were having (the beast master ranger for example). It has provided me with inspiration on some cool abilities for my villains and some great homebrewed spells that aren't too overpowered and fit the evil theme of the book.

I couldn't recommend this enough, 5 Stars.

The archetypes have interesting flavour, but very poor balance - I played through with a paladin of lust and the aura that subtracts 1d6 from all attack rolls inside the aura is broken. I do not recommend allowing these archetypes in your games.

Hey Teddy, thanks for your feedback. I do not know if that was your intention but you uncovered a typo. The Aura of Desire is a level 15 ability that the Paladin of Lust gains. We have wrongly worded that you gain it at level 10 (paladins get their oath abilities at 3, 7, 15 and 20. We will fix that on our next update! In case you still believe that this is overpowered for a 15 level character allow me to clarify. The Aura of Desire is a level 15 ability that influences creatures within a 15 feet radius area. At level 15 you are expected to face against creatures like an Adult Bronze Dragon (CR 15). The Deva has an attack roll of +12. The Aura of Desire will reduce that attack roll by 3.5 meaning that their attack roll becomes a +8.5, which means that the dragon still has more than 50% chance of hitting per hit. Combining the breath weapon and wing attacks etc we believe that the dragon stands a great shot at still destroying a party and that a -3.5 against their roll won't affect the balance of the game that much. Bane is a level 1 spell that can cause an average -2.5 reduction to every attack roll AND saving throws. Consider also that level 15 is a power boost for the paladin. The Oath of Vengeance for example gainst the Soul of Vengeance which allows you to make an extra attack against a creature as a reaction. We believe that a -3.5 on an enemy's attack rolls is not as powerful as Soul of Vengeance. Let us know if you believe otherwise and thanks for pointing out the typo!

When Nikolas reached out to me to review The Dark Archetypes, I got very excited because rarely do you find content on the Guild - or ones that are really well built - allows a player to build an evil or darker character. Traditionally, characters usually fall somewhere in the good or neutral categories - at least in my ten years playing D&D, very rarely to I run into player characters who are truly and fully evil. What Nikolas offers are some amazing and truly thematic new class options for A) a Avernus-themed game, and B) just any players looking to flip the alignment scales and play the villains fully.

I am torn as to which my top pick is because they are all so good - I'm tied between the Monk Way of the Oni and the Barbarian Path of the Deathsworn as my top. Overall, Dark Archetypes really stands out amongst other player supplements in the sense that it allows the opportunity for games to step back and explore a darker side of things at the safety of the table. With strong layout and visual organization, the new addition of class-specific items, balanced and powerful mechanics, and at a very decent price for what you get, Dark Archetypes is well deserving of the Comics, Clerics, & Controllers Golden d20 Badge.

Amazing writing and art, there are a few things left unclear or ommited such as damage type in a couple of places, but that does nothing to dampen how fun and cool this is
