I just finished running this adventure for my new campaign and I was very pleased with it. I ran for a party of 5 level-1 PCs, but 3-4 level 2 PCs would also work. The encounters are tough, but if one of your party doesn’t have a brush with death at level 1, you’re not doing it right!
Troll Trouble is a short adventure that follows the standard Tavern/Travel/Cave/Boss template, and has roughly 5 Hard combat encounters. There are a number of new creatures to fight, which are all decently balanced and fun to fight. There’s even a newly imagined version of an old classic monstrosity.
The boss is a spellcaster, which is usually a pain for me, but the spell selection as written makes for easy strategizing. It only took me a few minutes to plan out the first 5 rounds of combat, plus some conditional actions.
If Demogorgon is the BBEG for your campaign, there’s some excellent foreshadowing that most of the players will miss. If not, it all works fine without describing the specific details to them.
If you need an adventure to start off a campaign, look no further. Especially if your group is well-experienced in D&D and you want something to challenge some of their expectations. This was $1.00 well spent and I would buy another by this author without question.
