The second imaginative tale from B&R, Wolf Lord of Yol is a handily crafted adventure packed with a dense amount of content! Although largely secluded from much of the world, the Yol Valley has many areas to explore and colorful NPCs to converse, all fleshed out with rich detail and varied maps. Uncovering the secrets of the Wolf Lord and the valley’s history plays out at an excellent pace, all the while maintaining wide options for its players and ease of navigation for the DM. I feel every element of this adventure comes together naturally while also setting up for the next chapter, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Thank you! That seems to be the common notion: packed. We modeled the architecture of the adventure off of Curse of Strahd. And yes, we mention the name of the next adventure in the series in this text. Just have to get it to find out ;-)

"regardless of preferred play style" That is high praise. We wanted this to be hack n' slash if wanted, horror tale, monster hunting story, quest for redemption, heroic, any and all of those.

The heavy, ancient drones echo as if from deep under water. A pulsing heart beat of kick and snare drum creates a steady rhythm as the sound of ambient wind mixes with organ and horn that crescendo into a driving rock mix giving way suddenly to a melodic piano tune giving an eerie sense of dread. Mors Certa - Mark of the Wolf Lord is the evocative musical piece used to set the tone of Cauldron and Tower’s first foray into the multi-faceted world of adventure writing, “Wolf Lord of Yol”. John Bultena and A.R. Rye have created a beautiful sandbox style adventure for your adventurers to get lost in. With a rich lore The Valley of Yol is sure to give your party hours of play as they uncover the amazingly detailed history of the area. What begins as a seemingly normal quest quickly turns into a budding mystery that finds players travelling from town to town in search of answers to questions they don’t know they are asking. The cities and villages are populated with colorful characters each with their own backstories and motivations and every area feels unique. Wolf Lord of Yol uses an Escalation system in this adventure that causes things to happen with or without the players actively taking part that can have dire consequences for the valley itself. The adventure also reminds Dungeon Masters to take particular note of certain NPC’s and what events transpire because not only is this an amazing adventure that promises 20 - 30 hours of gameplay, but it is only the first in a series of adventures that are all interconnected. With included full detail maps of The Valley of Yol as well as specific areas and dungeons, awesome new monster options that can be dropped into more than just this campaign, character options and interesting magical items, the aforementioned mp3 by Mors Certa that is absolutely an integral part of the mood of the story as well as fierce cover art by David Paul Seymour (available as a shirt) this adventure will surely lead to many brutal nights playing D&D. Can’t wait to see what's next for the Cauldron & Tower team! Twitter: @JacksNotFunny

Wow, thank you for the exhaustive and in-depth review. We really tried to craft the way this adventure is presented in the manner in which I create my adventures: set a mood. I do that with music. I hear a song, think "This is what I want to go down in my game, I want my players to experience these moods but in D&D." Then I write and craft it out. The Escalation system is one we use: create a sense of urgency. All stories use time, but that impending result sets up the horror. That things will happen well beyond your own will.

Wolf Lord of Yol is full of immersive artwork, clever plot hooks, and a rich sandbox style world that is just waiting to be explored by all. The included original audio track really set the tone for this gothic adventure and I would definitely recommend using it to enhance your game. I was really impressed with the amount of content presented here and I'm looking forward to the future adventures in the Yol Saga! Pack up your silvered weapons and beware the full moon, something lurks in the shadows!

Silvered weapon, what are you talking about? Why would anyone bring that up in a DMs Guild title clearly NOT about werewolves. Thanks for the recommendation ;-)

I'm so impressed with the Wolf Lord of Yol! Not only is the adventure designed perfectly to be dropped into any campaign, it's also full of excellently crafted lore that brings the mysterious Yol Valley to life. Long after the adventure concludes PCs will find plenty to do in the Yol Valley and DMs will have ample prompts to keep the intrigue going.

This is a great high-horror supplement that is packed with content that will slot perfectly into a developed campaign or could form the basis for excellent riffing. The authors clearly know what they're doing, and the supplement really shows off their cumulative experience leading original adventures in D&D.

I love the orver-arching theme here ("he hunts" in a quiet and mysterious valley -- definitely Ravenloft-esque vibe), and the general non-linear open-world approach that should allow DMs to really make this adventure come alive on their own terms.

I'm particularly impressed by the way the content is fleshed out as a lot of adventure supplements, including those written by Wizards, cut corners in both lore and storytelling. This gives a very detailed overview of the area, gives detailed descriptions of the main towns and various locations within them (including rumor blocks), a superb series of dynamic encounters, and what looks to me like a truly epic finale.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that the fit and finish is also wonderful. They've packed this with evocative artwork, pre-written narrative, battle maps, original stat blocks, and a clear mechanic for "ramifications" that decisions made in this part of the adventure will have for the next release in their series. All in all, impressive stuff, in my opinion, and I hope to run this some time, and I can't wait to see what else C&T have up their raglan sleeves.

Wow this is very humbling. Ravenloft was certainly in mind, but we did not want to make this adventure (or any) setting specific. We wanted to invoke a classic gothic tale in a pre-horror type of way. And yes, there are always raglans.
