To premise this review, I bought the product after listening to Rogue Watson's review. Tying the product into Princes of the Apocalypse went extremely well with all of the content being immersive up until you get up to the Forge itself. The maps were great, although I only used the Forge map. Unfortunately, the actual exploration of the Forge could have used some more fleshing out, due to how sparse. Still I would heavily recommend this product as a way to expand upon the Princes of the Apocalypse Storyline.

Excellent adventure. There are great ways to start the adventure either as a standalone or to insert into your own, optional encounters to flush out the story in whatever way you want, ideas in increasing and decreasing difficulty, and full color Roll20 ready maps. Add into all that, a great story with excellent ideas on how to expand up it, and you have an A++ adventure. Great work!

Pros:

  • Optional Encounters with meaningful story ties and purpose.
  • Excellent full-color, detailed, and player-friendly maps of the forge dungeon and the regional area of Loudwater.
  • Perfect role-playing notes for NPCs.
  • Detailed epilogue for each faction and event.

Cons:

  • The forge itself is a little too short and sparse.

THE VERDICT: THOUGH A BIT ON THE SHORT AND SIMPLE SIDE, “THE FROZEN FORGE” IS AN EXCELLENTLY THEMED MINI-ADVENTURE THAT MAKES THE PERFECT SIDE TREK OR LEAD-IN TO PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE OR STORM KING’S THUNDER.

In The Frozen Forge, it's the Jets vs the Sharks when two rival cults try to control Bashield Forge. But the collateral damage has gained attention...

You may find yourself wondering who the real villain is after running this campaign. Is it the blue fire elemental? Or maybe it’s Hodgar with his challenge rating of 8 against these 4th-level characters. The petulant heiress of Bashield Forge? Who knows. It might just be the cults sowing discord across the land. Or their masters. You could incorporate a lot of misdirection and build a bigger campaign from this brief adventure and I hope you do!
