Love this list. It does tend to the more negative than the original list but this coupled with a tweaked wild magic sorcorer that is a bit stronger than the norm results in quite the fun package.

I'd ofcourse recomend DM's use this table as inspiration and not do exactly what the text says.

The additional info at the end is very welcome as well making this list a one stop solution. 5/5

I agree with the other reviewer. This table is a lot more negative than the original in the PHB. Here are my rough numbers based on my own categories. While I think this product has a lot of great ideas, the table is troublesome if folks believe it is going to be a replacement for the PHB Wild Magic Surge table.

I think one of the keys to note is the in the original PHB they don't have effects on the target because you don't know if the target is friend or foe. Trying to buff your party and then having them get necrotic damage is a decidedly bad thing and the ambiguity of spell targets makes it hard to balance the table.

Original PHB: 40% - Just positive effects 20% - Negative or maybe negative 20% - Flavor or neutral The rest is situational.

This table: 16% - Positive ~35% - Negative or maybe negative ~30% - Flavor or neutral The rest is situational.

This sheet is much more punishing than the table in the PHB. This list is more of a mix of good and bad effects rather than mostly neutral or good and only a few bad things sprinkled in. This might work well for a chaotic magic area but I wouldn't recommend it for a wild magic sorcerer where the wild magic is part of their class feature and should be a neutral effect or a positive effect most of the time. Such a high chance of a bad effect happening as part of your class feature does not feel good.

This is the table I use for my Wild Magic Sorcerer's surges and other crazy Wild Magic effects. It brings a lot of new and fun effects to try out. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to spice up the sorcerer class or for DMs looking for inspiration on magical effects.

I went to review this product and realized it had been updated with a third verson. I appreciate the author taking a previous comment into consideration in editing their title and making it more enjoyable and removing a couple of effects that some may find inappropriate. Good job on being cognizant of your audience!

Hi there! I really dig the options you made here! I do have a few things I'd like to point out that I have some concerns with, if that's cool.

Fortunately, there are only two options I want to discuss. First off, I can see how number 3 is funny. Personally, I'm not a fan of a horse being on fire, but as a DM, I can easily rule it to where the horse doesn't feel any pain and/or the horse is like etherial or some other shite. It can be fine, but that's just an option I'd discuss with my players before using it in-game.

The main option I want to discuss is option 24. I do think it's funny to have soot blasted on a person's face. The problem is that most soot is black or a shade of black, and that could be seen as blackface. Being a white dude, I wasn't personally hurt when I read that but I was immediately worried for my POC friends who play D&D. We all want to make D&D a game for everyone so they can escape the shitty state of the world we're currently in. Sorry if I'm getting preachy lol. Maybe just rewrite that option and say like the soot is purple or rainbow or plaid; some color or pattern that doesn't resemble any skin tones. If you do happen to be a POC yourself and you were cool with the black soot, I'm cool with that. Some POC may be hurt by it, so that's why I'm suggesting that.

Like I said, though, great work on the mishaps chart!

Hi Josh, thank you for downloading the PDF, and especially for taking the time to offer your thoughtful feedback! When reconsidering item number 3, I agree that the practical ramifications of an equine conflagration do indeed outweigh any absurd humor of the situation, especially when the players are expected to interact with it. I've replaced this item with a new, less troubling situation that might even provide more opportunity for laughter. Regarding item 24, it's probably apparent that I was taking a page from "exploding cigar"-type gags from old cartoons. Sadly, old cartoons have a pretty unfortunate history of racism, which hadn't crossed my mind while originally writing this supplement. Your review encouraged me to look into it a little more, and I was disappointed (but not too surprised) to find that those gags were often an excuse to segue into blackface and minstrelsy, so yeah, I'm definitely not comfortable including that kind of thing in my work. I've replaced that with an item that's less cartoony, but should have a more significant tactical effect on combat. I think the product is better now than it was before, so thank you again for writing your review. I hope you and your players get a lot of enjoyment out of this supplement and any others of mine that you download!

I picked this up as a DM currently running a campaign in the Feywild. It is such a fun tool to use when I want some wild magic to randomly occur within the scene.
