Four things:

  1. I expect a compendium to be a summary of a subject. This book is primarily a bestiary with a decent number of powerful fey NPCs at the end. I would have like to have seen more about some of the places such as Astrazalian, brokenstone Vale or Evereska.
  2. The book doesn't seem to be coherent, but rather a dump of a lot of information
  3. The information needs more organization;Appendix A is useful but not enough. More importantly, an example of how to use all of these in an coherent adventage would be helpful.
  4. The book needs a lot of editing:

Page 8- Next to the 'Fey Magic by CR' there is a paragraph that is mostly cut off. The same sort of thing is true for pages 196 and 197. Page 13 There's are sentences that are cut off "In this cosmology, the demesnes of Tír Naofa and Hagsend are not simply locations on Outer Planes, they are", "In this alternative model, any archfey can access" Page 35- I suspect that duicraft should be druidcraft. Page 44- spys should be spies. There are a LOT of grammatical errors, senteecnes without periods, missing commas and the like.

Even given all that, there's a lot of information to mine and it would be quite possible to put together a campaign using this information... but you'd have to fill in a lot of the blanks.

Lol when you're right you're right! In my defense, this was one of my earlier products, published long before WotC had any idea of what to do with the Feywild, and as a result the quality and consistency of the content within is obviously very hit or miss. I was pretty much brand new to D&D and had no idea what made interesting locations or adventure prompts (I had always been fixated on monsters, as you may have suspected). However, I've been contemplating how to completely revamp this product to be up to the standards of my new products (such as is seen in Fizban's Apocryphal Guide to the Feywild) and I have a pretty good idea of how to approach that. It will involve a complete re-evaluation of the locations described early in the supplement as Domains of Delight (cause yeah, right now that section is BORING and useless), a more insightful and useful analysis of how to utilize fey in a campaign, a more interesting explanation of how the different varieties of fey (ie faeries, sidhe, hags, fauns, nymphs, etc) relate to one another, and (of course) reworked monsters. I'm really not satisfied with the quality of a lot of the monsters in this supplement anymore, so a lot of them will get updated lore, more roleplay opportunities, more thematically communicative abilities, and (at long last) art. However, that is a ways off, as I just moved across the country, and a project like that will require time, money, and energy which I don't currently have access to. Thank you for your comment and your purchase! I'm glad that you have been able to make use of it, despite its rough edges. Hopefully I'll be able to set aside the time and money to rework this and my Lords and Ladies supplement within the next year or two, since they both DESPERATELY need one. If I have some time, I will try to fix those issues that you highlighted (thank you, btw, for that thorough list! that will save me a LOT of time). However, some health issues recently came up for me, so it would be remiss of me to give any concrete timeframe for when I would be able to do that.

Oh geeze, sorry for that hideous wall of text. Forgot that replies don't allow for paragraph breaks. My bad!

This author is amazing at what they do in numerous ways!

First, the quality of the statblocks, lore, and all around cohesion of this product (especially when taken in conjunction with the other books in the series) is astounding. I could only WISH to be as well-read and inspired as this author is.

Second, the author CARES. I submitted an issue I had with the scans, and the author had it taken care of and updated within the day.

Third, I feel confident in this author's ability to design encounters. Even if I theoretically have to balance something on the fly (which I doubt would be the fault of the content on display here), just going through these entires makes me feel confident that I'm on just as solid ground as if I were using a WotC-published book.

If the above hasn't already spelled out the obvious, I cannot recommend this book (and its series) enough.

Thank you so much for your kind words! It's hugely motivating to see that my work is so well received! Definitely keep an eye out! Like I said, I have some revamps planned for this (and a couple other) products, with the intention of improving the conceptual cohesiveness and expanding the roleplay options. I don't know when it'll happen, but definitely keep an eye out!

The breadth and depth of lore in this (and all the author's fey products) is astounding! I appreciate the tremendous time and effort that must have gone into incorporating both real-world tropes and legends and settings and characters from the long history of D&D products - and I'm beyond delighted that someone has saved me the work of trying to convert 2e/4e statblocks myself.

The content is rich and thematic enough (in an area that's gotten very little official 5e attention) that I can't bring myself to subtract any stars, but caveat emptor: this supplement (likewise "Lords and Ladies," so far the only other entry in the author's fey series which I've read closely) would benefit from some further copyediting. Most of the errors seem to be of the c&p variety and don't significantly obsure the author's intent - missing Passive Perception scores, archaic names for spells, that sort of thing. If you're moderately practiced at reading and using statblocks, it shouldn't give you too much trouble, but I'd recommend giving any monsters you want to use a close read before running them.

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words! I can see that there are three other reviews that you've left me that I still need to get to, and I am very excited to read them! And I fully agree with you, the number of typos, forgotten details, and other errors in my content is certainly embarrassing! At some point I'd like to go over my content and update it with corrections, but at the moment I am absolutely swamped with my next project, which just so happens to be a full expansion of the Arak! Keep an eye out for that late May, early January because it is my most ambitious project to date!

This serves as a good base for better fey in your game. The fey are among the least developed set of creatures lore wise despite having the most real world lore. This serves as a good base for adding more fey to your game.

The second Compendium is coming out in 2 weeks! Not quite as extensive as this one, but definitely worthwhile!

I love the content in this supplement, and have been using the lore and creatures in my current sessions. I would recommend this to anyone looking to make Fey a major part of your story or subplots. I would rate this 5 stars, but the supplement is riddled with typos that really make it hard to understand sometimes.

Thank you for your review! I'm glad you like the content! I apologize for the typos. This supplement had been over a year and a half in the making, so I'll admit I was eager to get it published. I've found a few in going back through this myself. Would you be willing to bring my attention to the most egregious ones you've found?
