This was perhaps the best of the Tier 2 adventures from this first storyline in the Border Kingdoms. I recommend playing the Tier 1 and other Tier 2 adventures first because it makes the showdown at the end of this one really mean a lot to your character. I greatly appreciated that there were multiple paths through this one so replayability will be very good. Strongly recommend this module!

If you hate a challenge, don't play this module. However, if you have a ranger with forest as favored terrain, this module will be seriously fun for you. I really enjoyed this module, somewhat because the premise wasn't overly complicated. Quest guy says "go find my grandpappy's magic helmet so I can legitimize my claim to his lineage. Also, the forest it's in is spooky and dangerous." It was a lot of fun to go do the thing you were paid to do without the whole world being on the line, and there were sufficient options to keep replayability high. I recommend this one strongly

I'll be candid and direct. This module didn't feel like it fit into the storyline at all. Everything else was a classic heros-for-hire adventure exploring the towns and surrounding areas of the Border Kingdoms with a little intrigue sprinkled in. Everything else felt like you could achieve success through different tactics and outcomes. The Darkest Knight is dark horror in a Haunted Mansion. It felt like the concept was written, then relocated to the Border Kingdoms with only a few minor modifications maybe weave it into the main storyline. No, not woven into, just kinda featuring a couple cameos to connect it. Regardless, at the end of the module we didn't feel like the storyline of the Black Wyvern or the Dark Knight had advanced at all, which was confusing based on the title of the module.

My chief complaint, though, is that the adversaries chosen by the author have abilities that specifically target intelligence saves and doing lots of psychic damage, placed into scenarios that felt like they were there expressly to TPK a party or at least felt like it was designed with a DM vs. players adversarial dynamic. 40 minutes into the module, 3 of 5 players at my table were ready to get up and walk away and all five of us were vocal that we weren't having fun. One was so upset that he was prepared to go speak directly to the author. (Kudos to the DM for talking us back into it, recalibrating his strategy to ease up on the difficulty, and working with us to find a way to make the challenge fun.)

Maybe this was more in the way the DM ran it for us, because others that played this module said it was quite easy, but for us, this module was INCREDIBLY difficult for a group of Tier 2 characters and I really wasn't a fan at all.

The first objective required to get the full advancement requires you to "defeat" the Lawful evil creature, but the scenario can be murky such that the heroes have no reason to destroy the aberration. (If everyone in the mansion is dead, then the creepy thing in the moat isn't a threat to anyone, is he?) It felt like a "there is only one way to win, but you won't. This crap was made to kill you." module.

Just make sure you review the module thoroughly and that your players are ready for a challenge. If they're expecting a romp in the woods fighting average difficulty undead or monsters and then are whalloped by the boss monsters in this scenario, you could find them extremely frustrated and ready to quit.

Caveat emptor. Your mileage may vary.

While the flowchart on this module is a beeline for the finish, this one's enjoyment is a bit of "Ohh! Ohh! I know what's gonna happen!" paid off a short while later with a "I knew it! I told you!" and that's a totally enjoyable thing too. I particularly enjoyed the defense of the Gillmann granaries from the sellswords and the interlude back in town, while the third act is a really fun, if straightforward dust up.

As others have noted, this episode is very combat-heavy, but by Tier 3, most players are expecting it. The flow chart is a straight line with a decent amount of dungeon crawling, but these are observations, not criticisms. Worth your $5.

Well written and could serve as an introduction to the Border Kingdoms if you don't want to run 01-01. A straight-forward hook in a hunting competition, but with multiple hunting parties available, the plot doesn't have to run the same way twice. The bonus objective isn't always easy to work into the narrative, but it has some fantastic content and is a lot of fun. If I had any complaint, it's that the magic item included feels a bit like "Oh, and now that you're successful, you trip over this thing that's here for no particular reason."

This is a straight-forward, no nonsense adventure. Two solid hours and a good story. The rewards are ample and fun. My only complaint is that there are no options for extending this adventure past 2 hours. No potential bonus objectives. On the plus-side, this module is only $2.99. A fair trade-off I suppose.

This adventure defines 5-stars to me. This adventure starts you with a typical-seeming scenario, and then things get a little bit twilight-zone. What is going on in Selpt!? Where did all of these cats come from? and Don't you think you need a cat to keep you safe? Everyone should have a cat. Stop thinking about buying this and buy it. Meow. err... now!

Don't let the numbering fool you, this is the SECOND module in the storyline and boy is it a doozy. A somewhat flaky NPC gives you not enough info to work with and then as you're really getting into the thick of saving her friends, you find that the problem is of a far different sort to what you were prepared for!

This module is great for parties that like exploration, for DMs who love watching players ask questions and test things that they'd never before considered and has a really great opening for extending a cave into a homebrewed dungeon, ir if staying with Adventurer's League, perhaps one from another book. Definitely recommended.

This module was everything you'd want in an introduction to a storyline or a region. First, it's starts in a tavern, as all campaigns should (I say this in jest!), and second it gives the characters a clear and distinct reason to be heroes and to work together right from the start.

It's a solid 2-hour adventure that feels complete at 2, but also feels organic with the bonus item added. I hate it when bonus stuff feels "tacked on" and this didn't at all.

Bonus: There are a TON of maps included with it, making this module a must if you're going to run this storyline.

A straight-forward puzzle dungeon that fits into the Yawning Portal "storyline" fairly well, but doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you're not following it right into TYP.

A fun module but leave a lot of time. It took us 5 hours to run this 2 hour module. A really entertaining excursion out of Phlan, but keep your players moving or the exploration will really push this module's length.
