This book was essential for me when I ran a seafaring campaign. The rules around ship-to-ship combat, managing a vessel, and the various pre-built ship ideas were perfect for helping to build a well-balanced world for my players to explore. Worth every penny!

love the way it functions it is exactly what we were looking for. only recommendation would to include a sample image associated with each vessel. hard to find what each ship looks like for tokens or battlemaps

Simply put, this guide is awesome. It adds immersion to a nautical campaign, and does a fantastic job adding realism to the setting without sacrificing the game's roots in fantasy. A wonderful supplement worth every penny.

Even though WOTC released a ruleset in both UA and Saltmarsh I was not happy with those rules. Seemed fiddly. I wanted something that leaned more towards Theatre of the Mind since I may need to run the odd naval battle but I am not running a naval campaign. This fits the bill. Its just complex enougth to give the right feel for naval combat without turning into a minis game. Thats all I was expecting however the book also has example weather conditions the ship may need to deal with and, much more imptortently, example encounters. Saltmarsh has very little in the way of example naval encounters (I think its none unless I missed it) which makes this book worth a lot more to me than Saltmarsh.

My only suggestion is to convert the weather conditions (or add a new section) into skill challenges. I use these liberally in my 5e game and that would seem to work better with what you are trying to do with weather than the "complex trap" you have setup. Though the complex trap works when you are using a grid, not so much when its TotM.

5/5.

DnD covers most aspects really well, but when it comes to ships and everything naval they cam learn a thing or two from this guy! Props for making and publishing this, it's great!

This is the first release from Drifters Game Workshop and I hope it’s not the last. If there are any drawbacks to this supplement it is the most subjective of them all…price and art. $7.99 is a price that some people will consider exorbitant, a notion I still can’t grasp. For the cost of a fast-food meal you can have a supplement that you will access time and time again. The art, for me, was similar enough in style and theme to maintain a cohesive feel throughout.

I've been searching for handy rules for running ships and naval combat and this fits the bill nicely! The core rules do a good job of building on the way 5e works without adding too much complexity. There are rules for weather and hazardous terrain, with guidelines and examples for building your own. The included ships and equipment will cover just about any use case and time period, and would be easy to add to. Also included a bunch of sample encounters for a full range of party levels, providing both immediate use and inspiration for designing your own encounters. I look forward to running some ship battles and encounters in my home game!
