Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. There are so many good ideas in here and I've already used some to augment a game I'm running. There are a lot of fun and whimsical ideas and the sidebars are great. I also love the section on homebrewing holidays. I have a feeling I'm going to use this resource quite a bit and already have plans to adapt some of it for a major portion of a later part of a campaign I'm currently running.

This came in so handy in my campaign recently! The players had a little downtime near a holiday so I wanted them to have a memorable festival. They loved the standard drinking contest stuff but were especially happy with the house of mirrors and having a live theatre performance (which was also a good way to work in some exposition for my homebrew).

My players ended up killing and reanimating a clown in the Haunted House which turned into a two-session bout of craziness that taught one of the PCs, a warlock child, some good lessons about how actions have consequences, and how leaving an undead clown in a haunted house might not be great for the other people at the festival.

Overall, this supplement has a really useful look at holidays in general and how to create them for homebrew campaigns, as well as providing suggestions for dozens of festival activities. I'll use it again if my players ever risk going to another festival.

This is a great little resource. I've used to to run several in-game festivals and while it leans heavily into European/Western festivities, it still has plenty to offer for non-traditional settings as well, including a sample festival based on Japanese mythology.

There are also fun rewards in the form of minor magic items, a selection of carnival themed backgrounds, and plenty of inspiration for building your own festivals.

While a big and thorough document, this pdf seems to be more of a light encyclapedia of what the history of festivals (etc) is, and not much functional use for your actual game. The archery comp roll tables are handy, and the huge appendix tables are fun too, but the vast majority of this book doesn't seem to have any actual application to a festial you're prepping unless you've never heard of or been to one before. For example, the entire "Denziens of the Circus" section lists out a half dozen people you may see at one, and then just says what they do. Ringmaster. Contortionist. Magician. Nowhere in here does it talk about how to use this information to build a unique scenario for your players. Just that this exists. Realistically, this book would go further to teach someone how to start an IRL festival, feat or fair than it likely will a fantasy one. $4 is a fine deal for the tables, I'm just bummed i still need to do a ton of legwork to fill out my space after buying it.

This is an amazing supplement to add some flavor and fun to any campaign. It gives some fantastic ideas for the origins of celebrations and traditions and is really helpful for building your own holidays. With great examples of competitions with mechanics, some magic items to add some interest, and even some backgrounds for new pcs, it's well worth picking up. My group definitely had some fun with the Iron Bull and the archery contest, and I can't wait to be able to use more of these great ideas.

Fantastic! I've purchased two of Ashely's guides, both were very well written, well organized, and comprehensive. While I might have done a decent job coming up with a festival on my own, this guide has so much that I would never have come up with, and is all around much faster. Ashley also takes time to note differences in sensibilities between a modern audience and historical analogues that you might deploy in your campaign, and how to avoid hurtful stereotypes. Cannot wait to bring one of these events to my party!

An amazing product that will give you all the flavour and mechanics that you need to set up a festival or an event like a circus visiting the town. From time to time the adventurers need to let some steam off and that where this great supplement comes in.
The author has done a well done job writting it in a easy-to-read and clean way while it also cheers up the DM, inspiring them to build and expand on the given content. This food for inspiration supplement will make your DM-game reach the next level and let your players experience something else other than the hardships of hunting goblins! 5 stars, great value with a justified price!

I had an upcoming Haloween-like event in my home campaign, but no time to prepare for it. This came just in time to save the day. Absolutely brilliant in both conception and production, this is a must-have tool to enrich your worlds with small details that really bring life to mundane situations.

This is a unique supplement focusing on a niche part of life in a Dungeons & Dragons world. It is often too easy to reduce these worlds down to being defined by strife and hardship; May has done a respectable job of shining some light on the happier side of things.

What's to Love: The content is well-written, concise, and easy to digest. It stays on-topic and flows well from an organizational standpoint. There are tools for both creating your own festivals and full holidays or plenty of tables you can use to quickly represent a small fair at the table. It's versatility as both a prepatory guide and at-the-table reference are definite bonuses.

Sticking Points: There is little to bring up here in terms of the writing itself. As for the content, it is a fairly niche topic that does exactly what it says on the tin. If you have no interest in incorporating holidays and festivals into your game world, there isn't much for you here. The art is vastly different than what you may expect from a Dungeons & Dragons product, but it is consistent in style throughout the product and does little to distract from the text.

Room for Expansion: If there is one thing I would have liked to see in a book like this, it is a treatment of some of the more common setting-specifc holidays. For example, Greengrass in the Forgotten Realms or Wildnight in Eberron. A few setting-specific holidays are mentioned throughout the book, but are not detailed.

Conclusion: Festivals, Feasts, and Fairs is a valuable product if you are looking to build out these aspects of your world. There is plenty of content here to justify the $2.95 price tag.
