I played with my 3 and 5 year old niece and nephew, knowing there'd be a good bit of modification. The storyline and encounters were perfect. My niece mostly cared about helping out the ogre, and my nephew mostly wanted to fight things, so it balanced out perfectly. From the DM side, I appreciate the emphasis on following the Rule of Cool - you all do a great job of reminding us rule-following DMs that as long as the kids are having fun, the "real" rules don't matter.

I'd love to run this with an older audience who can use more strategy (and the character sheets), but I gotta say, the unleashed creative power of these little kiddos was pretty incredible. My niece especially brought about a few incredible plot twists that had all the adult spectators laughing.

Just played this adventure with my two girls (6 and 3), with my wife assisting, and an family friend who has played D&D before. It was great, everyone had a fantastic time. I added a pinata challenge to the birthday party which everyone seemed to enjoy a lot. Also toned down the violence having the goblins run away after one of them got taken to 0 hp for example. Would like a way to have avoided that encounter, by either discovering the goblins and being able to scare them off with some magic tricks or something, but I didn't have much time to prepare so maybe next time.

I ran this adventure for my 10yo daughter. It was her first time playing any sort of roleplaying game, and it was the perfect introduction. With kids, you just never know what they might do, and I appreciate that this adventure has the flexibility to be anywhere from combat heavy to almost none. I feel like kids can really relate to the plot and hooks. There is enough to keep them interested, but not so much that it drags out past what their attention span can take. The NPC's are well thought out and gave me the opportunity to get a little goofy and do some cool voices. The only downside I see is that it assumes that the PC's are children. Not something that cannot be worked around, just something to be considered. All-in-all it is really great work and my family had an absolute blast! I think we need more kid freindly content just like this!!

I just ran this with 4 x 9 year-olds playing their first ever game, and we all had a great time. With the slightly older audience, the stolen cake became a kidnapped birthday girl, but otherwise we largely ran it as written. The kids loved the variety of interactions with different creatures (some friendly, some not so much!) and the encounters were well enough set up to spark their creativity and imaginations. The kid-friendly character sheet was also perfect. Highly recommended as an entry into the game for younger players.

Probably not the target audience but this adventure caught my eye and I worked it into a homebrew game I'm DMing for 4 (aged mid 20s to early 30s) Rather than friends they were basically on a dilvery mission and were probably expecting something far more dangerous. Either way the slightly weird tone of tough adventurers trying to sort out a birthday party without upsetting a small child was a fun adventure for all, a good time was had by all. Would definatly recommend to others!

A fantastic adventure for kids! Clonker instantly became a beloved recurring NPC after running this with my daughter. This adventure provides simple ways to introduce hand mechanics to new players in non-combat situations by means of a series of carnival games the players can take on. I also love the inversion of the evil ogre trope, encouraging kids who aren't inclined to violence to find a more peaceable solution.

Spoiler alert

I just ran this adventure with my kids (6 and 8). It was their first session. I made some minor modifications to suit their chararcters (Druid + Ranger) and it was a huge hit. The story was great. My son got caught in the trap on purpose so my daughter could sneak in an steal the cake. My son (6) was the one who figured out what was wrong with Clonker and why he stole the cake and decorations. He was almost in tears as he offered to be his friend and bring him to the other party. It was a great moment and he felt really good. He went in looking forward to a fight but he was much happier with this result. Great story and introduction. Thanks!

Hands down the best character sheet for introducing kids to 5E. Great story as well.

Nephew had a great time with it! Now he wants a full campaign, I've not tried writing my own campaign before so hopefully I can find something!

Thank you so much for this!

Somewhat experienced DM here. Finally started a group with my 8 years old daughter and a few of her friends. The storyline is easy and the DM tips in the document were helpful. My approach to DM'ing werent' that different as with adult players, storyline comes first, but I found that at least at age 8 they had a little difficulty with getting into the 'atmosphere'. A fault of my own I guess. I wonder if there's a good venue for talking about DM'ing Kids?

Anyways. This was an eye opening adventure experience for me. Highly recommend this as a first adventure for the family kobolds.

If I could give any one point of criticism, it would be that having a more in depth focus on the opening of the adventure would be helpful for starting DM's. Heck, for experienced ones alike. :)

This adventure was both my first time playing 5e and the first game I ever DM'd. I ran it for my kids and a friend and the structure of this adventure made it so incredibly easy and intuitive to follow for a first time DM. It's a lighthearted adventure that gracefully hits on all three of the pillars of D&D. After running this adventure I retconned the location to be in Amphail in the forgotten realms in the campaign I still have running for my kids. Clonker still hangs around Amphail helping out the locals, and is always happy to hear that his friends made it back alive from another adventure. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone of any age who wants a fun adventure that is easy to DM and makes it easy to teach your players how to play D&D.
