The Priest, the Witch, and the Lost Temple: An Adventure
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Just purchased the adventure, so far it looks amazing! The art and format looks great and looks as professional as an official campaign book. I'd love to see a printer friendly version, but I know that would require substantial formatting changes.

This is a substantial story and adventure. I hope it gets steam and you can recoup the costs of all this hard work! It certainly seems like a LOT of work for a mostly solo project.

The story is intriguing and offers a lot of mystery for the characters. The players might discover the twist early on, simply because of the common theme, however the cast and adventure leading up to the conclusion is unique and fully thought out.

DDAL08-01 The Map with No Names

I haven't had a chance to run the adventure so I can't attest to the playability.

The art and appendices are amazing additions to an AL adventure and amazing in their own right! I wish there was a printer friendly version though because of the addition of the art work.

In typical Season 8 fashion, the AL module style has changed drastically. While it seems to be well laid out, some of the changes don't seem necessary for the legacy and standards that have been set from previous adventures. The addition of the "Playing the Pillars" is a nice addition for helping DMs remind the players of the 3 core pillars of D&D gameplay.

I'm a huge proponent for box text as it really helps lay out a scene to players and the DM, and I think the lack of any box text really hurts this adventure. Waterdeep is a massive and fantastical city that while very fleshed out from previous editions, games, etc. players and DMs who are new to the world and just diving into Adventurer's League would be offput by the lack of the beautiful descriptions weaved into box text. I like to think Adventurer's League is for those new players, but the small changes like this can ostracize players and DMs who aren't as in the know. I also feel like the box texts are great educational tools for players and DMs alike in how to describe a scene and their characters.

As for the writing of the adventure itself, the adventure doesn't offer much in the way of an adventure hook and is a pretty weak one at that. Its simply that the party is given a map by the barkeep and told, "go follow this and tell me what you find, if you do that I'll offer you room and food." Assuming the party is out for gold and treasure, fine the party is offered a nice opportunity to follow 3 clues to reach the big reveal... nothing, you need to get DDAL08-03 for that. The adventure offers a lot of variety (probably reminded by the 3 Pillars of Play) in completing the goals and that is something I appreciate from an AL adventure, however it relies on the DM coming up with those ideas and doesn't allow for a DM to just pick up this adventure and run it.

These logsheets are great for helping with new and old AL players to explain the Season 8 changes! I love the design and that it matches the aesthetic of the Player's Handbook. The information is well organized and easy to reference!

Pregenerated Characters (D&D 5E Season 4)

I enjoy how the backgrounds play into the AL season stories and really help players make a more cohesive character. These logsheets are great for handing to players that forgot their character sheet or are just looking to drop in. These sheets do suffer in that their design differs from the standard logsheet, so converting a new player over to that creates the headache of relearning. However, for players that already know D&D, they have everything the character would need and are well outlined to fit that need.

WhyT's AL Season 8 Logsheet
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Date Added: 11/01/2018 11:05:22

The logsheet is useful and simple for players, however I feel the aesthetic is lacking in its simplicity. It's not a bad thing, it's just not particuraly fun to look at and doesn't make the more annoying tedious part of D&D any better. This is just my opinion on the matter, however the logsheet is well made and checks all the boxes for logsheet needs.

This was a great tool to help run Storm King's Thunder, a lot of the ideas can be easily changed and it really helps to have a rough idea of what players might decide to do throughout the course of the adventure and how to prepare for that. The guide also helps fix a few of the problems that exist in Storm King's Thunder and help the DM foreshadow and create a better more cohesive story.

ONe of my all time favorite adventures to run and be involved with. I ran this at my FLGS alongside 3 other tables and each group was intrigued and interested by the mystery. Afterwards, players from each table discussed the adventure and were thrilled by the variety and challanges.

Hilarious and a great tool for kiddos. I know its meant as a parody, but its simplicity has helped me quite a few times in explaining the Season 8 changes. I have since renovated the idea of this Logsheet to create my very own logsheet.

The way this was all laid out has been a total hack job. They were almost a day late on dropping most of the content and even now it's half-done.

The refusal to fix the problems the AL Community asked for is a total slap in the face to all the players who've been loyal to the genre and excited for the good changes.

Pros:

  • Advancement Checkpoints are great. They make it simpler and more streamlined. There are a few down falls, but they're fixed by allowing players to slow their progression.
  • Treasure Checkpoints are great... for purchasing magic items, both the unlocked stuff and the Evergreen list. They make the final who gets the magic item at the end of the adventure much easier to handle.
  • The Adventurer's League Content Catalog holding all the Season / Adventure specific guidance is a much more suitable place for all that information.

Cons:

  • Gold is a total joke. It's such a staple to DnD and this update really trivializes exploration more than it needed to be. There is no reward for finding treasure. I can understand that want to make gold harder to get, but it could have been fixed in many other ways. DMs could have just been given the leeway to award a bonus treasure point to players that found bonus gold.
  • There is no DM Quests packet.
  • DM rewards aren't as flexible as they were in previous seasons. Honestly, the only reason I DM Adventurer's League is for the opportunity to create a character and plop them into a game every once in awhile.
  • The logsheet obvioulsy didn't even get looked at by a designer. There are twice as many fields that players have to fill out now, and it didn't even come with a "Magic Item's Unlocked Cheatsheet" that helps players buy items.
  • All the changes made a lot of unecessary complications with no easy to understand cheatsheets.
  • Storm King's Thunder is a completely obsolete adventure with the changes.

I run a community that hosts about 25 players who play weekly in public. The DMs including myself are talking about trashing Adventurer's League until this can get fixed.
