The prior review is correct. While the overall story is interesting, there is little to no "game" here. You must manage to find the right items (and only use your spell scrolls at the right time) or you can't win. Even then, you don't win based on anything to do with your character. Overall I was unsatisfied, but a DM could perhaps use this general setup for a brief side encounter during a ToA campaign.

Back when I was younger in addition to "proper" D&D I really enjoyed solo D&D adventures and Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, with this in mind when I got back into D&D with 5e I went looking for solo play options and that's how I discovered Revenor's Ring.

THE GOOD: Revenor's Ring gets out of the more tradional European setting for generic D&D products and gives more of a middle eastern flavour, which is a nice change. The character of Revenor himself is a break from more basic characters simply by being an Eldritch Knight which opens up a few more tactical possibilities. The writting style and text itself is quite well done and does a very good job of making for an immersive experience.

THE BAD There was virtually no challenge at all. Almost every conflict and obstacle in the main portion of the adventure can be overcome (basically circumvented) by the spell scrolls Revenor starts the adventure with. The final encounter was flat and unsatisfying. When you finally square off with the big bad as a player you have virtually no influence or control over the outcome, one of the items you may have aquired earlier can open a different option for an outcome but you can not use any of your skills, abilities, spells or combat skills in ANY way during the final encounter. Although I found the choice of Revenor being an Eldritch Knight interesting it made no sense and had no impact on the actual adventure itself. It felt like it would have made more sense for the character to have been a Rogue or possibly a Wizard with more actual spells and less/no scrolls.

Overall I was really just expecting more of either a challenge or a sense that my character or my choices had an impact on my gameplay experience. In fairness I definitely got $2 worth of game play out of this.
