I liked the dungeon; I didn't like the Ravenloft theme. The villain isn't a strong enough villain to create a darkrealm of Ravenloft. Also, killing a darklord doesn't lift the mists nor does it allow people to return home; once a place has been taken by the mists of Ravenloft, that's it. The dark lord is killed by someone else who, as part of gathering enough power to kill the previous dark lord, becomes a dark lord themselves. That's the whole point of Ravenloft. Also, my players did not appreciate suddenly finding themselves in Ravenloft, because they thought they couldn't go back to Chult. I would just the run the adventure without that part next time.

This is a very solid adventure that forms a good coda to a ToA campaign and continues the Artus/Dragonbait narrative arc. Parts 1 and 2 are very thematic, and I liked that in Part 1 there are multiple ways to resolve an encounter. Part 2 is a temple encounter where the choices of the PCs make a significant difference to the difficulty and narrative of the last two fights in the part 2.

Part 3 is a bit less detailed than parts 1 & 2, and is almost an entirely separate plot thread. So in my run I actually did Part 3 first and then Parts 2 & 3. As narratively the encounter with a corrupted immortal fragment of Ubtao seemed more climatic than an encounter with the result of a magical experiment by a mortal gone wrong. It also should give the PCs more time with a certain thematic magic item in Part 3.

I'm very much looking to running Maze of Shadows after this.

I chose this as our table's first foray into Tier 3. Wow...

3 parts: part 1 was "easy". 3 hours. story setup, easy combat, and medium combat. it wasn't clear to me (thus not to the party) that they fought the dracotaur because they were in the way of the sunken temple. part 2 was deadly. 8 hours (over 2 days). fun maps, my party is terrified of trees know. i made a prop for the poison dart puzzle, they pulled rings with reckless abandon, almost killed a PC. they respect druids, finally. scary big boss. part 3 was deadly. 3 hours. improvised maps, scary big boss.

after each night, 5 adults sat in the parking lot of our FLGS for 45 minutes talking excitedly about it.

spoilers

cons: typos. black pudding has assassin vine stats. tactics talk about shambling mounds instead of tree blights, air myrmidon has swim speed. taherako needs legendary action yet another staff of the woodlands spare is weak for a legendary (2d4 vicsous mockery 1/day?) that should be at will or 7d4... or not legendary. (table loved the lore, but no one wanted to give up attuntement slot for it) and quit giving out tier inappropriate items

ug. dragon mag has a free version, but i bought this to see if the problems are fixed. nope, just stick with the free version.

Guild Adept, AL legal content done right. It is substantive, paid attention to player rewards like money and items and told a great story. I cannot recommend enought. The only criticism I have is that a lot of the early fights are not likely going to challenge a party of appropriate level.

This is a brilliant module, and a step up from most AL content I've played/DM'd. This was my party's first T3, having completed the ToA hardcover and T2 mods from Season 7. The plotline is easy to hook into, and does a nice job of building on itself throughout (Think that's the source of the problem? Nope, even worse!). This modules gives characters a sense of what it means to be T3: they're not here to save a city or investigate a curse; their actions and power levels mean something greater to the world.

Combat encounters are well balanced, although I would have liked more support mobs / Legendary Actions for the final boss. I also mixed in content from Encounters in the Jungles of Chult instead of rolling on the standard random undead tables. A+
