Dropped in a few encounters from this book into both campaigns I am running. They are simple enough to quickly make changes to suite the environment the players are in and provide great little side adventures to break up the main adventure.

Absolutely love this bundle!! I'm a newbie to D&D and to DMing and thought a few one-shots would be a good way to get some practice. Long story short, I read through all of the Savage Cities encounters, picked about half of them and, with a few tweaks, additions, nips and tucks, I created a full-on campaign! Our group is having a great time! Great combination of exploration, roleplay, and combat. I also love that the encounters are easily scaled up or down for different level PCs. Kudos to Jeff C. Stevens and his crew.

This book has something to offer for all kinds of players and Dungeon Masters. The encounters are well thought out and fun to play and scalable to boot and can be easily worked into any campaign or even used as engaging oneshots. They are also fleshed out really well with creative detail and flair. Moreover, all this information is presented well with a clean and structured layout and great formatting. The artwork and the maps are gorgeous and these alone justify the price of this supplement. Overall, this is an awesome collaborative project and the hard work and creative effort poured into this book are laudable.

Definite buy for me!

When I evaluate a supplement product there's a few question I tend to ask myself "How likely am I to use this in my own game? Is there value in the material? How quickly can I adapt this to a different setting? Is it plug'n'play into my existing campaign?"

This particular product is HIGHLY usable! A whole host of writers bring kick, adventure, and variety to the game with scalable encounters complete with maps and suggestions.

Of particular note, I enjoy this sort of supplement as it allows me to provide a sort of uniqueness to the game and bring an element of adventure into urban environments, which is an element I have sometimes struggled with.

I recommend this product to dungeon masters who need interesting elements to populate their cities with.

Really enjoying this. I am adding some of the quests to Tomb of Annihilation such as the Dirty Doves and It Ain't Rats. Good quality!

The only comment I have, is that the maps are a bit simplistic.

Just picked this up last Friday(and Encounters in the Savage Frontiers as well) and spent the weekend reading through both. First thing I have to say is, Soooo worth the money! Let me try to break this down for you.

  1. A fantastic showcase of writers. I will be picking up other products from some of these writers based on the encounters they presented in these two tomes.
  2. The formating and built in scaling of each and every one on these encounters ensures thier usefulness troughout the adventurer's carreer.
  3. 50 encounters(combined with Savage Frontiers) works out to just under $0.22 each!
  4. The inventiveness and creativity of most of these encounters could remain as entertaing stand alone encounters...or easily bloosom into major story arcs all on thier own.

I will greatfully use these tools in my home campaign and prey that Jeff C. Stevens and his friends find the time to do this again. New witers should be begging to be in the next one.

This is a steal at this price. If just a couple of these encounters are used in the game, or you use the cool maps, you will get your money's worth as you and your players have a blast.

There are some really fun encounters in this product, and they are self-contained. You can run them as one-shots, but easily add an overarching plot to them. Those jackalweres? They are in the employ of the big bad gal in your campaign. The gang of thieves? A front for your villain. The ease with which this can be done makes the product even more useful.

Each encounter is nicely laid out and has scaling options (often covering APL 1-10). THe maps for the encounters are great line-drawing "battlemap style" art and work well for all kinds of situations. I think many DMs might pay this price just for useful maps.

After looking at the cover art and reading the description, this brings to mind some great potential side quests and story arcs that would happen in any big city that my players go to. My current players in my campaign have been exploring Baldur’s Gate and Iriabor in the Forgotten Realms, so slipping in these would work seamlessly.

Looking over the good amount of different adventures available and scaling options built in means that I could potentially pull these in to my games at anytime. Below I will list the various Pro’s I have found with this supplement.

Pros: The collective ideas of these writers makes for very unique ideas that can be easily tailored into any city. One of my favorites is the Hunger of the Ancient Orb.

The detail on the backstories around the places you go and people you meet are very robust.

Each module is in the same format regardless of the writer that contributed it, which is helpful when looking for Challenge Rating, DM Notes, Location Type, and a brief description of what the encounter will be about, and some include how to Scale them for other CR’s.

The book also does a very good job at not only giving page numbers in the Monster Manual to referenced NPC’s and monsters but also goes the extra step to give simplistic stat blocks for ease of reference.

The book contains some very cool new monsters with properly formatted stat blocks such as the Mud Mephit Mischief Pack, the Giant Mimic, the Ancient Orb of Aeons, the Street Rat, etc.

Cons: Honestly, I didn’t really find any big flaws with this supplement.

Overall Impression: Overall, I think this is a absolutely fantastic product and tool for any Dungeon Master to have in their back pocket. There are so many unique mini adventures and encounters to use while you are in between your character’s next main quest. This would also be very handy for running One Shot adventures or something random if one or more of your normal players can’t make it to a a session and you need to “stall” for a side quest. I will definitely be looking to dropping some of these into my campaigns.
