Fun little adventure, my players realized they had managed to avoid combat about half way through and went for a pacifist playthrough. Great short adventure to drop into a Forgotten Realms campaign or run as a one shot.

I bought this largely sight unseen because I saw the name MT Black on the authors list. I have only skimmed it and I have been impressed with what I've seen.

I really like this module, it just oozes charm and it would be great for younger players and adults alike. It really captures that epic adventure feel without actually being the length of an epic adventure, and it doesn’t require very much prep to run. I wish I had stumbled upon this module a few months ago, because it would be a great module to run around the holidays, but it’s not so “Christmas-y” that you can’t run it any other time of the year. Overall, a very fun adventure and well worth the money.

This module was GREAT! I just had a session where I was planning to be a player, but due to unforseen circumstances, we couldn't run a session of the campaign we were planning on for that evening. Instead, we were discussing running one-shots, and I offered this one up to my friends (who leveled up to 8 recently in our other campaign and wanted to try their new abilities), having purchased it a while ago and only BARELY skimmed the first two chapters, which set up the quest. I ran this with, more-or-less, no prep.

It was GREAT! The setup saw us all really enjoying the RP, the journey was fun with the Goblin Market and the various encounters along the way. We took a 5 minute break so I could skim the Bastion proper once they arrived there, and the dungeon's puzzle encounters were a LOT of fun for my players. Not to mention the ending, which had them really torn trying to answer a somewhat morally-grey question, and returning to the gentleman who gave them their quest with a somewhat morally-grey resolution to everything. All in all we played from about 7:30 to 1 in the morning, so about 6 hours plus some wiggle room, which is our usual session length anyway. It fit perfectly.

I can't say this enough, this was AWESOME to run as a Gamemaster with no prep. I feel confident that I could run a whole campaign by stringing adventures like this one together. I'm planning to pick up more of these works by MT Black and offer to run them again when our 2 normal campaigns get thrown off-schedule.

DMed this to 2 different groups so far, and all my players had a lot of fun with this. In both cases it took way longer than the proposed 4 hours, more like 8-10, but it was worth it.

NPCs are coherent and relatable. As English is not our native language, translating the poem posed an added challenge to me, but that was to be expected when I picked this adventure. Note to fellow DMs: players can spend a lot, and I mean A LOT of time in and around the mechanical house, so prepare both to furnish them with details, and to drag them away from it if you want to do this in one sitting :P

For me as a DM, getting to the tower was the best part, the randomness let the players create completely different narratives, which was a treat to watch. Oh, and I'm SO using the goblin market in all my stories where it's at least slightly appropriate ever since ;)

The tower is somewhat linear, after they figure out how the fireplaces work (quickly, usually), and although the challenges are different enough that the party never actually gets bored, it does feel a bit like going down a corridor. There is a lot of opportunity for the party to figure out alternative solutions to murdering their way through the place, which compensated somewhat to the railroady linearity. (For the next time I will probably add in some secret rooms for them to find, though.)

The final confrontation can easily be tweaked to be just epic for whatever level/composition th party is, should they choose to fight. While neither of my parties got the girl, they both felt completion, which was, once again a great feeling for the DM.

The unique magic items are fun, and none-too-op.

Oh, and this is a perfect pick for a hot summer day of gaming - the cold in the tale makes all outside heat more tolerable :)

This module has it all. A great hook/introduction, a ton of really fun puzzles, good RP/social encounters and also fun combat. Each room in the castle is unique and will have your players guessing. It’s always fun to see what your players come up with to solve a puzzle and this module has tons of quick puzzles (I believe 6 or 7?).

M.T. Black is well known in the industry and that's because his work is consistently great and this module is no exception. The module is easy to prep/run and will be a lot of fun for the DM and the players. Just go ahead and buy it if you're on the fence!

I'm the DM of a podcast that plays one shots from dmsguild so if you want to listen to our playthrough of this module you can find it at the links below or by searching for "One-shot Onslaught" wherever you download shows. Look for more M.T. Black adventures from us in the future!

Wow! Just finished an amazing one-shot running this great adventure.

It has some really great puzzles and encounters that any group will enjoy.

You can really ham up some of the NPC's as well. Especially Jemma Jinglefrost.

You need to pick this one up!

The final "dungeon" alone is worth the price. It's a very clever take on 5-room dungeon style, except it is an 8-room dungeon. It is full of simple riddles and tasks, but each different enough to probably make any group need to rack their brains at least once. The rest of the adventure is also a nice little one-shot story line. I re-skinned the adventure to fit my campaign, and even made Lord Frost into Elsa, even bringing in Olaf. Beware the encounters in the Bastion are pretty tough. Great work by MT Black, as expected, I have enoyed every adventure I have played or run from him.

Really thoroughly enjoyed this adventure--I'd happily run it again!

Thematically very intersting and fun, a solid choice for any games that are interested in dabbling with the fae. Groups with particularly clever players will likely find this adventure extra fun to play around in.

This adventure does a good job of having both depth and variety of things to do and ways to interact; it feels well rounded to play. (The roleplay, combat, and exploration opportunities are all equally interesting and satisfying.)

My group got a solid three sessions from it (roughly 12 hours), this game has got plenty to give!

I chose Bastion as the adventure for my online groups 2nd annual get together - where once a year we come together around a real table as opposed to a VTT. The group loved the adventure. It's a nice balance of puzzle/riddles and action. A smart group will learn quickly that a lot of the fight can be avoided.

This was great for a long afternoon of gaming. I really liked the balance between puzzles and battle. I added an encounter right after leaving town where the party found wooly mamoth tracks and envountered a saber tooth tiger who was stalking them I did think the encounter with the revenant was too tough, but the party made a wise choice and fled. If I run this again I would replace it with skeletons.

I love adventures that showcase more than just great combat encounters and this one definitely fits the bill. There are a lot of interesting mechanics put into play here such as the exhaustion rules and multiple routes to reach the same destination. Even the final encounter is designed to be morally questionable no matter what choice you take. This is one of those rare adventures where every decision made since the beginning of the game will affect how events turn out in the climax.

There are smart riddles, puzzles and combat options. Unlike a lot of other adventures, this one hits the three pillars of D&D: exploration, combat and roleplaying. Another great product from M.T. Black.

As always, Mr. Black presents a great looking adventure with an awesome story. The NPCs are full of life and unique personality. The Iron Piglet is a nice distraction and gives a chance for some really fun role-playing. Over-all the story runs smooth and is full of what makes for a great adventure. I have not played all of M.T. Black's adventures but this one is one of his best so far that I have read! Highly recommended!!!

Well I drew a map for this one and got to read some stuff before release and it was pretty cool. Now reading the finished product I can see my suspicions were true ! it's pretty cool. Plus I like the layout.
