This is the perfect introductory guide to the Faerûn setting. With other guides, they bombard you with countless details of every town's factions and histories, making it hard to wrap your head around the bigger picture. This guide cuts all that and makes it very easy to understand the general regions and their unique qualities. If you want to learn about Faerûn or help your players learn about Faerûn, this is probably the best guide to start with.

PREFIX: This is not an all encompassing guide to Faerun. It is a handout (as stated by the author) to give you broad strokes as to some major locations.

Perfect for what I was after. I've got a whole bookshelf full of things on the realms.... that my players are never even going to read the back covers of let alone the contents. Instead of asking them to read something like the SCAG or Grand History of the Realms (both fantastic) this succinctly, and stylishly gets across the basics of all of Faerun in an easy handout. It's 14 pages of actual content isn't super dence, which I like, and is laid out quite nicely. Couple this with "The Council of Waterdeep" for info on the factions, and you have a GREAT primer for players who, although may be somewhat familiar with the realms, might need a quick refresher on Faerun.

I DMed a lot but all homebrew setting so I know nothing about the forgotten realms, but I'm starting 5e and our group wants to play in the official setting. I wanted a simple cliff's notes to help me get my new campaign started. All the official books are too big and overwhelming but my friend recommended this. When i read the comments about typos I was worried about the quality, but i guess he fixed it because it is very well written and the layout is very professional and it is very organized and easy to find everything. I really like how the places are grouped together by regions on the map. It helps to quickly see what is nearby each other and where things are in the world, also how the places are organized. It keeps everything simple to get the main points about the places and the characters of the people and different regions without everything being too confusing with too much detail. It's a perfect intro for me trying to understand the forgotten realms world for the first time. This is my first purchase on DM Guild, and I am very happy with it. I definitely recommend it.

Not worth it. A brief description of locations barely a paragraph about each place no population sizes what the place trades full of typos very dissapointing.

I'm sorry it wasn't what you were looking for. But I think the preview makes it clear what you should have expected from the location descriptions. You are correct that exact population numbers, except in a few cases, are not specified -- I used terms like metropolis, city, town, small village, etc., to indicate sizes. I think it would be very strange that a traveler who had written about the places he visited, would have access to census data. Similarly, although detailed commerce data is missing, many entries DO discuss the major trade goods and services for which different places are well known. As I stated in the description, this is an item that is intended as a simple overview of the major features of Faerun. While it certainly can be used as a helpful quick reference for DMs, it was created to be used by players as an in-character item. So it presents only the type of information that might be easily acquired or commonly known by it's more well-educated and well-traveled inhabitants. It sounds like you are actually looking for a DM's campaign book. If so, then I'd recommend one of the officially published campaign setting books. Most of them have hundreds of pages of the type of detail you are looking for.
