One of the first PDFs I picked up when I discovered the guild. Great resource to expand on your reportoire of baddies to throw at your players. A lot of classic monsters from previous editions in here as well. Highly recommended.

I own a lot of supplements, a lot of bestiarys, and have invested a lot of time into PF to D&D and I was quite surprised at how well written, and organized this book was. I was skeptical at first, as honestly we all should be, when buying anything, however after a healthy bit of reasearch I decided to take the plung and empty my wallet. I am absolutely satisfied, and recommend this product to anyone seeking more D&D content, lore, or collection material in general.

~Thank you!

If you don't already own the Critter Compendium - you really should. While it doesn't necessarily add new imagery or creatures to the game, it does a great job of resurrecting and reinventing classic foes ranging from the Allip to the Mimics to Xill.

There are over 250 creatures presented in the manual, most of which players of 2nd or 3rd edition will immediately recognise.

Really creative statblocks for varius creatures that introduce new mechanics to the game to both roleplay and battle. The included art is great and everything seems to be well thought. Congratz on this creation.

I was looking for a lot of these critters - especially ones that I had miniatures for but no stat block.

This is really good, a lot of interesting creatures in here and creativity. Overall I was happy about my purchase of this product. I wish these were all in Kobold Fight Club.

Pros: Many creatures, significant creativity, alternative options and types of creatures already made, great matchup with other pdf's/books of monsters in 5e, similar formatting to other material on creatures for 5e.

Cons: Price tag feels a little steep, sometimes feels not in alphabetical order, none of these are on Kobold Fight Club

Highly recommend. I spent 2 hours flipping through reading the book and I have to say I'm astounded that such a high quality product was produced by one person - especially when Tome of Beasts and Volo's have teams of people behind them. The art is pretty good (there's not always a consistent theme since the sources are a combination of different stuff), but I appreciate having it there. I can say the lore bits are great and gave me various adventure ideas.

The monsters are well-designed and nothing seems freakishly unbalanced - I would feel comfortable mixing these in my game with monster manual and volo's stuff without fear of inconsistency.

Overall, good product. The $15 dollar price tag was intimidating (never paid so much for a dmsguild product) - but now I understand this is heads and shoulders over what you typically expect from this site and is on part with other professionally released monster books.

You're gonna wanna read this.

I had gotten the Kobold Press Tome of Beasts a while back after being short on monsters to use in one of my very long campaigns, and boy did I need it more than I thought. It added quite a few fey and interesting devils for my use, which was important at the time, and I was happy! 9/10

I got Volo's guide from Wizards of the Coast not long after and just about the opposite happened with me being fairly disappointed in the fewer monster options... The player options were fine and the few monsters in there were cool but I didn't have use for the overly heavy inclusion of lore at the beginning of the book since I run homebrewed games set in my own multiverse... 7/10 (solid C+)

Now I was lacking in some other things I desperate had been searching for, and trying to grab from homebrews and on the dmsguild... undead, demons, and some of my old school favorites such as the krenshar, nightshades, and other such dark entities to fill my dungeons and shadowy corners with.

The Critter Compendium sounded good... the table of contents looked interesting but there wasn't any sort of visual preview of any of the monsters so I got a little bit nervous. I read about there being things like a small section to cover more and less powerful elementals, which was something my players had desired for a while. A wider selection of beasts in appendix A sounded nice, as did monster stats and weapons for players and loot. I decided to take a chance and get the book based on a couple of nice things people had said in the comments and from what I was reading. -I can tell everybody that for $15 this book FAR exceeded WotC's own Volo's guide as far as monsters goes. If you want dark, interesting, gritty, or even just weird or useful creatures I 100% recommend this product. When it comes to 5e this is the best monster manual I own as I'm writing this outside of the actual monster manual.

TL:DR review: 10/10, love this product.

Very professional and helpful book, especially if you need more variety for conjureable creatures. One of the best DM Guild downloads for me so far.
