A nice filler adventure. The vampire with spell casting abilities is nice. But unless the group has really made friends with Seer, there is no reason to go on the adventure.

I rated this module more highly for the plotline than playability. It's fun to advance SEER's plotline and even bring her into opposition to characters, particularly for players / characters who have been through much of Season 5.

On the downside, as other reviewers have said, there's so little difficulty that it erodes the enjoyment. When I ran it, the party was Strong-- six PCs and APL 14-- but the only time I made them sweat even a little was using four banshees instead of two (they were still never in serious danger, and none of the banshees survived more than two rounds, but banshees are a good way to make even Tier 3 PCs without Con save proficiency feel nervous). I added an extra Dreamweaver in the first fight, too (and the party had a moment of shock when Greater Restoration didn't immediately work, though they had enough Prayer Beads, Clerics, and Druids that it was a minor setback).

For the final fight, I added a Champion and improved SEER's capabilities a bit (e.g., she had a Globe of Invulnerability). It still wasn't close. I think the boss just doesn't have the damage output to be threatening without significant allies (and for Tier 3, the Charm / Dominate options are unlikely to last very long, possibly not even long enough for the affected PC to act). If I ran it again, I might add two Champions, or maybe a Champion and an Abjurer (and seek to Walls and Banish to split up the PCs). Tactically, it was a fun reversal for the enemies to have more counterspellers than the PCs. Well, it was fun for me and I think an interesting dynamic for the players.

Timewise, it took me about 5.5 hours to run (partly because my monsters tried to play as smartly as they could and partly because there's a lot of not-that-threatening fights). I expected it to be faster because of low difficulty, but it turned out that just chugging through the enemies took some time even though the enemies were largely ineffective during it.

A nice short dungeon crawl, but the encounters seemed pretty underwhelming for tier 3. If you add in some better-scaled theme-appropriate monsters into the encounters, it has the potential to be more encgaging. Even using the strong and very strong adjustments, my players had no trouble with it. I would recommend giving the boss character stronger minions.

It also seems weird that Seer got kidnapped in the first place, considering that she's supposed to be some Elminster-level character.

Part 1 of a 2-part module, this adventure sends you on a hunt to find the missing SEER. The encounters in this may contain some elements that players may not be used to facing, and contains some twists that can greatly impact part 2 if players fail in their objective. I thought the choice of monsters for the combats were a nice mix to offer a challenge, but with any higher tier adventure, be prepared that player characters may have access to some powerful items by this point.

Encounters: 5/10 A lot of these encounters are simply too easy. Many of the encounters are against bags of HP as far as Tier 3 goes, and these opponents are easily disabled by spellcasters. There are few ways for these encounters to challenge the PC's if they have decent saves.

The boss fight is interesting since its a monster you don't see very often (except in a certain hardcover), so in the end its modestly fun.

Plot: 7/10 You do care about the story/hook, since it's a major NPC friend that you're trying to rescue. Outside of that, there isn't much mystery or politics in the story, so it tends to be uninteresting.

Its a decent module, though my groups have always found the combat lacking. Add in a few volos templates or a thematic undead and this can be a very nice module

This module takes a little love to get running but its fun. I like the story but I will say I put a lot of mosters at max HP in plate or Studded leather to make it go. Also for some of it I suggest adding a champion or warlock from Volo to get the combat to have deadly feel to it. I've read the other reviews and I agree if you don't modify the combat the story doesn't make sense entriely because it doesn't seem that the creatures you face should be able to overwhelm Seer. Very fun with a little work. Now that I have done the work I would run it again! -DM Ace

The module felt very lackluster - the challenges didn't seem appropriate for a Tier 3 party, and was a cakewalk as a player. Although the aspects of lore and player mission - rescuing SEER and having her be a party combatant was interesting, it ultimately wasn't enough to make this module seem worthwhile.

This is a straightforward rescue mission that lacks challenge for a typical tier 3 party. The combats need to be run at a higher difficulty than normal in order to not be a walk over.

The Season 5 Hardcover (Storm King's Thunder) is an amazing sandbox that spans the entire northwest Swordcoast. Unlike seasons 1-3 these storyline modules actually occur in the same area and mesh well with the hardcover. This is the first season to include the digial certificate for permanent magic items.

Before running any Season 5 module, you should download the following content from DMSGUILD and read it fully:

  • Season 5 Narrative: Parnast, Stagwick, & Beregost Sadly this was released only AFTER the season was over :(

  • A Guide to the Factions of Faerun Lots of Faction stuff in Season 5, so your players should be engaged with the Faction they've chosen.

This is a module that really doesn't know how tier 3 works. The fights are easy and simply to the point that any group that has even pregenerated characters should be able to completely ROFLstomp them. At tier 3 most deadly fights become normal, while most hard fights become easy (talking about encounter strength from the DMG). Also, the boss is a nameless vampire in the tier 3 adventure the SEASON AFTER YOU JUST KILLED A VAMPIRE. This seems incredibly poorly planned, as a party who went through Curse of Strahd would have so many vampire ruining items.

A weak enounter with a poor story arc. The "oh so powerful diviner was captured". If that felt weak, it was only trumped by the poor combat. T3 needs to be challenged, not thrown weak CR5 creatures. Second time I ran this was even more comical, one of the players has a sun sword and the first encounter was literally, I stand here in the middle of the room and let them die around me. One redeaming point was the final fight, but they fought and killed one of these way back in T2, so again...meh.

This module had so much potential from the set up. Rooms that change and pluck monsters from other areas along with their environment. The we just get a very linear adventure full of underpowered theives and rogues. Such a missed opportunity. Why not actually create 2 or 3 options for each room and that way you can play it multiple times and have a different experience each time. It wouldn't be that much more work. All together, very uninspired and not a great addition to the Bergost storyline. I will not be running this one again.

I have to concur with some of the other assesments. For a well played or well optimized group, this adventure seems like a bit of a pushover. It requires a lot of adjustment to make it a viable threat.
