I had an afternoon to prep a one shot when the DM for the night's game flaked on my regular group. I found this oneshot in my folder and found it meshed perfectly with a backstory I wanted to tell regarding a PC that died early on who was a glassblower artisan. All I had to do was add a connection to the front end (he made the glass for the potions of a rival shop being put out of business by Rugo) and change the reward a bit and this told a great story about what happened to his shop after he died. Thank you for the awesome heist story that also allowed another PC to fully utilize his illusion changeling wizard in a manner no other game would allow. Ended up being that players last chance to play for awhile so I was happy he got satisfaction from his players involvement.

I loved how simple to follow, yet clever this adventure was. I don't usually get alot of time to prep before a session as things tend to happen last minute with my group. I was able to read this over once in about 20 minutes and felt confident enough that I could loosely follow the story while dealing with my players' schenanigans. It created the base for several good encounters that of course went upside down quickly :P.

This was such a fun adventure to play. I am our group's primary DM and after finishing our first campaign I asked a friend of mine if he'd run a short adventure to give me the opportunity to create & play a PC. He stumbled upon Potions 11, and it was a blast! The intrigue and combat were both excellent! I admit that I have not read the product (so I don't spoil the magic behind the game my friend ran). He was a first time DM and he found it easy enough to manage and well laid out though.

this was so much fun. it was a good side adventure for my group while they were missing player and didnt want to continue the main campaign without him. delric seems like a decent addition as far as npcs go but the real treasure of this one was the way the assistant to the potion maker played out. she ended up being the most endearing npc for the players to latch onto and it made for a fun quick adventure. i enjoyed it.

This campaign was a joy to run and my players loved it. What I really appreciate about Zawada's modules (I also run Three Orcs and a Baby and Fifty shades of Fey) is that they are super easy to follow, with enough substance to go on but also room to put your own spin on it. I'm really looking forward to whenever Berdusk till Dawn becomes available.

This was my first time DMing and this helped it to be very smooth. Everything is laid out well and is clear. I am not looking back and forth to find out information. As for the story, it was very different from anything my group has done so they were very intrigued trying to set up a heist! I already am looking at all of the other adventures from this author :)

Ran for 2 friends who were relatively new to D&D, and they loved it! This is great for a small town adventure, and fleshes out the in game world.

And the name is GREAT.

I've now run this adventure twice. I love the way that the structure of the adventure allows for and rewards roleplaying and skill-checks, and also gives players a good helping of combat (which in the final encounter very nearly one-shot-killed one of my Level 4s, so watch out for that!). Everyone should be getting their chance to shine. I have had a bit of difficulty getting a LG-type PC to take the adventure hook so it is worth taking some care to weave it in with backstory and/or previous events in the campaign where possible so as to motivate them beyond simply trusting that the questgiver's belief will turn out to be correct. Both of my groups have wanted to explore the street around the shop before going in, so I'd recommend DMs to be prepared with things like details of the buildings to the sides and opposite, what the party will find if they go round the back, and an NPC bypasser or two - so as to reward player creativity in coming up with other character-appropriate ways to obtain the information preparing them for the heist. Once you get the hang of the adventure set-up, though, this is easy to do. (I had a lot of fun coming up with suitable traps/puzzles and guard monsters for a possible approach via the backyard or over the rooftops, but you could equally come up with reasons why those aren't possible: I played the villain as completely obsessed with control, so it would have been plausible for him to have taken steps to stop those approaches altogether.)

I'm running a modified version of Potions 11 this weekend. I really like the theme and structure of the adventure! I have some questions and editorial notes for the author's consideration, though:

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

  • First, a specific compliment: I LOVE that you included scaling outcomes for many skill checks! Of course I've seen this before, but it's a sadly uncommon practice that I wish would become standard for all published adventures. I know from personal experience that this is a lot of extra work, but it really makes things easier on the DM at the table!

  • The Apprentice Ghoul stat block doesn't list any actions. Is this an oversight? I recognize that between spell slots and Chill Touch, they won't run out of offensive options. But the use of the term "ghoul" implies a bite and claw attack ought to be possible. In any event, running the Apprentice Ghoul stat block through a couple of CR calculators returned them as a solid CR 0, well below the CR 1 they're listed at.

  • Typo: Rugo's stat block consistently refers to him as "the rugo." Probably want to change that to "Rugo."

Those are nitpicks. I expect my players will have a blast running through this adventure. Nice work!

Who doesn't love a good heist?!

This module is a really fun heist that also helps build on the phase of a heist that a lot of modules seem to lack, the planning phase. There is a lot of information from casing the building for the players to learn and to use to their advantage in the first section of this module which adds a lot of depth to the whole adventure.

I ran a modified version of this module for a single character as part of that character's backstory and it actually worked out fairly well. There are some things I missed on accident and some things he skipped on purpose (he's neutral to slightly neutral evil) but all-in-all it was a really successful heist!

Bottom line, this module is really easy to run and I would bet that your players would love to run a heist so you should grab it!

I DM'd this for my podcast and YouTube series so if you want to watch or listen to a playthrough you can check it out below or just search "One-shot Onslaught" wherever you download podcasts:

I ran this with my group of 4 (Druid/Fighter/Rogue/Ranger) this weekend and we all really enjoyed it. I loved how well laid out everything was, with a lot of information on what can be learned at different results on skill checks. They all had a lot to do and different moments to shine. Some highlights were the Half-Orc nearly breaking down as she killed the stone statue, and the tonal shift from lighthearted caper to much darker as they realised what was going on in the basement.

However I think the plot with the orphanage was just really weak and I didn't include any of that - instead I had Delric be a member of the Harpers that had a link with a party member, and they needed the shop shut down as Rugo was working with the Zhents, which felt much better than an orphanage owner who hates children for no given reason.

My group finally leveled up high enough to run this adventure, and I was very pleased with it! I used an existing background NPC who gave them the quest, and created a new map, which did change some things, but overall I ran it as-is. Since my map allowed them to go to the basement before encountering the cloaker or the statue, and they'd made friends with the guard while casing the joint, combat went much faster than I anticipated. (AKA my group slaughtered Rugo in two and a half rounds.) If you have a cleric, the zombies are much less of a threat, even with saving throw advantage, so giving Rugo another non-undead minion in the torture room might be advisable.

My only real issue with the writing is that the villains' motivations are really lacking. An orphanage director who just hates children and wants them dead? Meh. I ended up dropping the letter from the orphanage director, and instead decided to segue into The Night Below. (Rugo is Dominated, and the titular 11 potions are the Potions of Domination.)

4/5 stars--really fun heist adventure that is a welcome break from serious dungeon delving. I would love to see more like it!

Not only was this a wonderful mini campaign. It also gave me a whole load of great ideas that can be used later on for other similar situations. This is definitely worth getting. The main benefit to me was just how clearly everything was laid out for me and made adding this quest to my currently running campaign.

A totally excellent adventure. Really fun! I can't tell you how much you shoul be buying and running this adventure. It's straight forward, allows for roleplaying, and allows party members to shine in their own special ways. Best I've seen in awhile on here as far as adventures go!
