Tome of Battle was one of my favorite 3.5 books. It made combat characters exciting, dynamic, and tactical. Over years of playing 3.5 with ToB, the lore of the various schools wove their way into my group's setting and the backstories of many player characters.

Among the many attempts to convert Tome of Battle to 5e that I've seen, this is the one that stays most true to the original mechanics of the book. It includes the three classes from 3.5, adjusted slightly to fit 5e mechanics and remove references to 3.5 mechanics that no longer apply. Great care has clearly been taken to make this as direct a translation as possible given the vast differences in mechanics and design philosophy between 3.5 and 5e. This is not Tome of Battle reimagined or reinterpreted for 5e, but instead Tome of Battle competently and comprehensively ported to 5e. All of the strikes, stances, counters, and boosts are still there, adjusted for 5e's action economy and terminology. Nothing looks terribly out of balance at first glance. Tome of Battle characters will likely have damage output similar to the burst damage of Player's Handbook classes that recharge their core abilities on a short rest, such as Fighter, Warlock, and Monk, but with increased complexity and round-to-round decision-making on par with or exceeding Battle Master Fighters.

Several of the Tome of Battle prestige classes have been converted to subclasses in keeping with 5e's general design philosophy.

There are a handful of minor, nitpicky issues I could point out, but pretty much all of them can be resolved with common sense and a familiarity with the original Tome of Battle, nothing I would consider anywhere close to a deal-breaker.

If you liked the 3.5 Tome of Battle and want to use the same mechanics in 5e, or you feel that 5e removed too many decision points in character-building and in combat, I expect this book will be a good pickup.
