I ran this as a relatively new DM with three persons, two of them never played DnD before and wanted to try. It is a cool adventure with a mix of everything, roleplaying, fights, decisions and at the end even strategy. They loved it. Thanks for the nice evening. :)

This is a very simple, charming little one-shot. I could see this working very well for someone’s first attempt at DMing, or as an adventure for a group of younger players, but there’s enough going on here that I wouldn’t sneeze at running it for a table of adults. This is definitely a great “not everyone could make it to tonight’s session” kind of module, especially because I think you could feasibly run this entire one-shot theater-of-the-mind. Overall, highly recommended, especially at this price.

I've run this adventure twice in the last couple of weeks, once for a group of first-time players as well as for a group of more experienced ones at higher lever (5th). Both groups had a wonderful time with this adventure, as did I running it. This is easily one of the best introductory adventures that I've ever run.

The adventure was nice and straightforward to run with a clear goal for the players to achieve, while making it immediately obvious to them that there was lots of flexibility in how they could approach that goal which the first-time group in particular appreciated. There's a great mix of combat and exploration as they party makes their way through the woods, as well as plenty of approachable NPCs for them to interact with.

Both times that I ran the adventure it took around 5-6 hours of play time to complete, with the two groups getting up to Jahia's cottage in the first session, and then returning to Frickley and facing the giant in the second. The only major change that I made was taking out the fight at the fallen tree, and replacing it with a puzzle (of sorts) for the party to solve - the bridge has rotted away and they need to find a solution to cross. Since there's already a couple of combat encounters in the woods I think swapping this one out helps to add a bit more variety to the adventure.

Scaling the adventure for higher level play was also very easy, just requiring a few tweaks to some of the combats (e.g. the town is threatened by a pair of giants instead of just one) and not much else.

All in all this adventure was a blast. I can't recommend it enough and will absolutely be running it again.

A great low level adventure. Needs little time spent in ref books other than MM. Thoroughly enjoyed pc's 'tilting at windmills' when the hill giant lumbered along. Plenty of scope in the landscape and options for npc helpers that the low level party can plan their tactics and survive easily, or not.

well if this isn't the cutest little adventure you ever did play... It worked perfectly for our party when only two of us showed up at our DM's house. The DM printed it off, we rolled up two new characters, and made it through smoothly in 1 session. As a DM I now keep this printed out and handy for when the same thing inevitably happens again. It works flawlessly as a one-shot ready to play 'straight out of the box', it fits really well into most campaigns I can think of, but I can also see it easily expanding into a trilogy for a party to work through in multiple sessions.

Great little adventure. Easy to tailor to any campaign and modify to insert one's own ideas. Nice mix of challenges. Great opportunity for quality role playing.

This easily digestible adventure offers a nice balance of role playing, problem solving, player choices and combat. I ran four first-time players (middle school aged) though it and they loved it, actually cheering out loud on a couple of occasions when they succeeded. After completion I asked if they wanted to play again and they shouted “Yes!”, the ultimate review.

Ran this adventure for my brother and his kids. It was my first time DMing and their first time ever playing D&D and I'm so glad I picked this. The adventure itself is highly detailed so you have plenty of information to improvise NPCs or outcomes. I played this against 4 level 1 characters and they were able to lay an ambush down and slay the giant. Probably took them about 3 hours to finish. I added my own maps for some of the encounters and that made things easier.

Excellent little adventure. The first "real" adventure I put my girls and their friends through (ages 7-10) and they had a blast. I hope to use this as a starting point to run them through Storm King's Thunder.

Great work!

This is a great module. MT Black seems to capture just enough story that is not too long and drawn out. It is not short, it just seems just right for a 3-4 hr adventure. This is the 3rd module I have done a playthrough. I plan on buying at least one of every level that he has. I think that MT Black adventures is the best for us. I simply do not enjoy long thought out stories that can go on forever. He really puts enough in the story that you do not have to add much at all because its all there. This one in particular is great for a 1-2 level characters. I was really impressed with this one. If you want a good pre-packaged adventure like the old days then get this one!

Great job. The creatures were pretty awesome and thought out. I had fun running literally every character in the adventure. The party had real fun interacting with them. It was a great intro module for new players.

Not a bad thing to say about it. Not even really a mediocre one. Excellent module.

I just ran this twice, once for a group of totally new players and once with a mix of veterans and newbies. There are lots of opportunities for roleplaying, combat and exploration. We had a ton of fun with it and both times we finished in about 3.5 hours for a group of 3-4 level one characters. Each time the players saw only 2/3 of the content as one of the decisions takes the players down different paths. I am a new DM and this was my second one-shot I ran, and was initially daunted by the number of NPCs I had to run, and the first time I had trouble doing the voices I had planned for them, but the second time around I was more confident and managed to pull off a couple of different voices to bring some life to them.

Overall I highly recommend this adventure for any group to play, and it runs very well for newbie DMs and players!
