I really liked the idea, as I agree that the dark gifts provided in the AL-DM guide are too few.
However, most of the gifts in this expansion are severly unbalanced. With the original gifts the characters get something that renders their character more interesting, but the good and bad effects of each gift are always in check.
With this expansion this is often not the case. There are 20 possible gifts:
1-4 are the original ones.
5: Any character that needs to use their hands is rendered unplayable.
6: Would be balanced without tremorsense.
7: ok
8: Any character that needs speech is rendered unplayable, as they have to face 1d6 for each round of talking.
9: ok
10: ok
11: ok
12: ok, but bonus and malus don't fit together.
13: ok
14: unbalanced. Bonus in game-terms, malus just in descriptive terms. Needs rework (e.g. CHA-malus in social interactions).
15 : Very unbalanced. Malus greatly exceeds bonus.
16: ok
17: Unbalanced - very unbalanced. A character with a constitution of 11 or less has no malus at all but gains two immunities.
18: This one is actually very good.
19: ok
20: This one is actually very good.
P.S.
It is bad form for an author to write a review for his own work.
