Really fun idea, and cute characters, but could have used better proof reading.

Ran this in Elturel as part of Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and it went great!

Fantastic module, featuring a neat little mystery and plenty of agency for players to get involved with the plot. You have a tournament that every class can meaningfully compete in, a mystery to solve with great characters and twists, and a flavourful setting that ties in with many of the core campaign books (Elturgard).

I ran this as part of my Tyranny of Dragons campaign as the group headed toward Elturel, but it could also serve as a meaningful intro to Descent into Avernus.

Highly recommended.

running this with my group during their hoard of the dragon queen playthrough (relocated the tournament to Elturel to have it en route to baldur's gate)

Theyre loving the tournament mechanics and mystery, great stuff!

My group enjoyed some aspects of this and really didn't like some of the others. The way they went about solving the mystery was super challenging for them to piece all the details together about who did what and why (and learn the rumos were or weren't true). I should have cut the spellcasting event as we only had 1 out of the 4 that could participate, but they really wanted to. This led for a very boring interaction for the rest of the group. By the time we got to the grand melee, no one even wanted to participate with the rules. I had Aelfred cancel the grand melee because they had uncovered some of the plot by then and had convinced Devon to tell what he knew. The horse race was GREATLY enjoyed, but we had printed 3d horses that held their minis, so I think that's really why they enjoyed it.

I ran this for a second-level party. It's a solid six hours of entertainment, with plenty of opportunities for social interaction. I particularly appreciate the fact that the author has anticipated the most likely courses of action for the PCs to take and accounted for them in the adventure. The combat is light unless the PCs go looking for trouble, but the various competitive events should scratch that itch for more combat-oriented players. The new magic items are quirky enough to be interesting, without being overpowered.

I thought for sure I'd have to nerf some of the NPCs to give the PCs any chance of winning any of the competitions, but I tried rolling them out ahead of time and was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case. The NPCs are pretty strong against PCs of that level, but they all have balancing factors that give PCs a fair shot if they're trained in the right skills.

One small caveat: It does contain a few typos (one NPC's armor class is said to be 30 instead of 20, for instance). Be sure to check the comments before prepping the adventure.

I ran this as a one-shot break from Curse of Strahd for my party to role up some 10th level characters and have some lighthearted fun. And great fun was had by all. The players all enthusiastically said it was one of the best nights of gaming they'd experienced. They all played characters with low intelligence, so the mystery remained unsolved. But they enjoyed themselves immensensely with the tournament games, especially the Grand Melee. I created the character of Emcee and used a trumpet fanfare from Youtube to announce each event, which created a fun sense of atmosphere and occasion to the event. The only thing that kept this from a 5-star review was the singing event; I couldn't figure out a way to run it effectively without writing an anthem myself, and I just wasn't up for that. Otherwise, super module!
