I really was hoping that this would be a good improvement to the Ranger class but it didn't really make it. The only way it improves the Ranger base class is if you take this specific Archetype, meaning you cant improve the basic abilities of the Hunter or Beastmaster ranger.
As for the Archetype itself, most of the improvements it gives to the base class are pretty good. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the change to Favored Enemy. It feels to klunky having to add half your proficiency bonus on top of abilities that are already using your proficiency bonus to begin with. I feel it would be better to have a set increase to attack or damage, similar to the Barbarians rage damage progression. I also think that all of these improvements would be better if you were not forced to take this Archetype to get them. Maybe make these changes to the ranger regardless of your chosen Archetype.
It also requires you to take the Outlander background in order to gain this feature. I feel there are many backgrounds that would fit well with this Archetype and therefore the limit should be removed. It does leave that to the DMs disrection, so that is a step to that end.
Now the Archetype itself. This just takes the Fighter Battle Master's Superiority Dice, Improved Combat Superiority, and Relentless abilities and brings them over to the Ranger. Since the fighter can also fight well with ranged weapons it seems redundant to add these features to the ranger as if this is what you wanted to play it could mostly be achieved by playing a battle master fighter. If you were to develop more maneuvers specific to the Ranger class, such as traps or other combat maneuvers specific to a Ranger in combat, this could be a more effective, original, archetype.
It also includes one new spell and a couple of magic items. The magic items are interesting and would definitely add some interesting flavor to the game. The spell however is extrememly overpowered in regards to other similar abilities that already exist in the game (see post in the discussion section).
As far as the improvements to the base class this is good, hence the 2 star rating. Unfortunately I couldn't go any higher than that as the other things added are either broken or already exist, practically verbatim, in another class.
