Purchased the premium version, printed in the UK. I don't think the quality is up to what supposedly has to be. Text not so crisp in many pages and colors seems to be a bit faded in some pages. Bad alignment and an annoying border due to that in the printed document. Spine shows an ugly generic text insted the Planescape style one. It's ok, just don't expect it to be near the real book quality.

Purchased the premium color print version. I was incredibly impressed by how crisp and sharp the colors were. The binding looks fantastic, and seems to be up to getting rough treatment. Having purchased premium and standard prints of various texts now, I can verify that the premium seems to fit the scan to page (giving the authentic feel of holding the product back in the mid 90's), while the standard has a less sharp print and a small but unconcerning border. You will not find an original version in as good as shape or any where near the price.

This text itself represented a heyday of D&D production. Beautiful writing, interesting and authentic feeling characters from a story bible corpus that felt well maintained and the lovely artwork of Tony DiTerlizzi. Highly recommend.

This book of NPCs is a great resource for anybody running a Planescape campaign.

Most books of NPCs make the mistake of making the NPCs unique and interesting, but hard to use. Every NPC requiring the DM to run an adventure around the NPC to be able to use them.

Uncaged avoids this by having most of the NPCs in the book act as couriers, money lenders, advertising cryers and a wide variety of shop keepers and other service providers. This allows the DM to use these NPCs without having to center adventures around them. Don't get me wrong there are a large variety of adventure hooks and ideas in this book, but the DM has other options rather then letting the supplement dictate his campaign. The book also does a good job of making the NPCs interesting to read, some are standard NPC descriptions, some are interviews, diary entries, wanted notices, etc. The back of the book also includes a section showing how the NPCs tie together and diagrams going over the major adventure hooks in the book.

This book is pretty much perfect, but I am docking a point, because this book is only useful to people running planecape campaigns. Its a rare campaign setting that has demons, angels and monsters running shops, but when you add in the various factions and Sigil's immunity to gods which most of the NPCs touch on, these NPCs can't really be converted to non-planescape settings.

I really enjoy this product. The NPC's are presented in a large amount of detail and gives them life. What I most enjoy is the network of relations between each NPC ,which gives a large amount of ideas to springboard adventure ideas or background events to add further depth to your games in Sigil.

While it's demonstrably not NECESSARY, being after all just a book of detailed NPC descriptions, Uncaged is a great tool for Planescape DMs. The NPCs here include common shopkeepers, lawyers, researchers, street performers, spies and turncoats, and criminal overlords.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: It's not so much that this is a vital book because you need to know about these characters; rather, the biographies, descriptions, and interlocking relationships give you a better idea of how Sigil works and how to create your own intrigues and conspiracies. If you do use the NPCs as written, their tricks and plots are a terrific source for adventures -- this is one of the first books I turn to when I get stuck for ideas.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: One or two of the NPCs are a bit too typical of their kind (the shator and the modron especially), though it's more than balanced out by some of the seriously out-there entries.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

An extremely interesting product with a lot of good art, some great art and some art that clearly didn't scan well into pdf. For a GM running a Sigil campaign, this book is probably indispensable, for a GM running a plane-hopping game, it's still useful, and for everyone else, it's just a curiosity.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: Good personality development for NPCs.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Too setting specific--not nearly as useful if you don't know Planescape.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
