I purchased the print on demand softcover version. Others have mentioned that the Planescape books have poor printing, with dark images and occasional fuzzy text. I have had no such issues. Text is clear throughout and the images are printed with great quality. There do seem to be some extra pages included in the back of the book, one is a Dragonlance map and another is a page of different unrelated to Planescape maps. These may have been included by accident but they do not disrupt the book. The scans seem high quality and I am very happy with my purchase and intend to purchase other Planescape POD materials.

POD is a little dark in some places but overall very nice and worth the purchase. maps are included and reduced in size to fit on pages. Still references well. Section on Fortunes Wheel is useful for use with fifth edition Planescape adventure book.

Even though this is 2e book, it is almost completey informational. No book, including the newest 5e book is as a more complete run down as this book. Every bit as current, and great information. I highly recommend this, in addition to the Faces of Sigil book that has some great hooks to complete the 5e campaign setting on the City of Doors.

This is a review of the hardcover POD book

The book arrived reasonably quickly, and I am very satisfied. The binding seems solid, the scanned pages are excellent and much more readable than the PDF version. Paper quality seems fine, if a bit coarse. The pages are not full bleed, there is a slight white border at the edges, but this is to be expected from scanned POD books and doesn't harm the product at all. All in all, this is a very well done alternative to the original Planescape books, which are collectors items and have risen substantially in cost compared to their original pricings. If you want to own this and other Planescape books physically purely for gaming purposes rather than collecting, the POD versions on DriveThruRPG are great affordable options that maintain a high standard of quality.

Bought the softcover, printing quality was great as was legibility considering it's printed from a PDF. Shipped very quickly from when I ordered it.

The print on demand is decent, but there are some problems that prevent it from being great. First, it is super dark. I realize that many print on demand reprints tend to be a little darker than the originals, but this copy goes beyond that. Many of the colour artworks are so dark that much of the detail is lost (I'm looking at you 'Lost Dragon Inn'). Even the cover is so dark that it makes the art look kind of crummy. There are a bunch of random maps from other D&D products in the back (the city and ruin geomorphs would have actually been useful had they been larger, instead of shrunken on the page to fit with the other random stuff). The extra stuff doesn't replace anything that was originally there, but it does add to the overall... let's say 'less polished' nature of this print on demand. Finally the poster map of Sigil in the back of the book is squished down to a double page spread. This makes it very hard to read or actually use in game. I don't know if it would have worked better if it was spread across 4 pages instead. What I really hope for is that the drive-thru print on demand can start actually printing posters - that would be a game changer.

A review of the Print On Demand Hardcover: The copy is excellent. Extremely readable, perhaps more so than original printings as the contrast between the background and the text is higher. Images are represtented well, though they're a bit more washed out than original printings. The cover is the only slight disappointment as the image is smaller than the cover and it is framed in black. Same goes with the backcover. However it feels solidly bound and the pages are nice and thick. A great copy if you don't want to shell out the $90 - $100 for a used copy.

A superb guide to Sigil, particularly for the DM. If you want to know all about Sigil, you must get this book. It is full of detailed descriptions of the wards of the city and strongly conveys the atmosphere of this most unique place. There is no substitute for this book. Other sources like Uncaged: Faces of Sigil and the Faction War adventure provide additional information, but this book is the key guide to Sigil.

I am going to keep this short, but this is probably the best city supplement ever released. There is no other city like it. I ran a Planescape campaign setting for ten years and with the whole multiverse at my fingertips we still rarely left Sigil. Why bother to explore the multiverse when you can stay where you are and have the multiverse come to you?

As another reviewer mentioned in addition to the city description there is are a lot of sample handbills, menus, advertisements and official proclamations that provide a great amount of flavor and make great player handouts.

Very useful for any Planescape campaign that involved Sigil to any extent (ie nearly all). Be warned though, some of the smaller details don't actually make sense in the context of the rest of the setting. I get the impression that since this was one of the earier releases, some of the details hadn't been nailed down. (ie. having a bunch of Doomguardsmen guarding an enormous statue of a nic'Epona; having teleportation pads that lead out of Sigil on the statue's pedestal come to mind.)<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Excellent resources for planar campaigns, 3e, 3.5e, and 2e.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: I liked the layout of the product and the way that it focused more on flavor than on crunch. This is what makes it an invaluable tool, even with the 3.5e campaign I'm running.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: The organization, like a lot of 2e books, is somewhat confusing. Also like most 2e sources, though, once one is familiar with the book, this is really not much of an issue.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

A complete guide to the city of Sigil, including a USABLE map, descriptions of dozens of alehouses, businesses, charities, government offices and vital services, plus a beginner's guide to the city written for new visitors. A picture is painted of a Dickensian nightmare of workhouses and poverty just a few doors down from the taverns where the wealthy feast on exotic dishes. There are plenty of flavorful handouts, including menus for some of the taverns, various official proclamations, and a handful of documents you could get in a LOT of trouble for possessing.<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: This is exactly what a citybook should be; it's loaded with useful places to go and NPCs to talk to (interfaced well with the ones introduced in Uncaged: Faces of Sigil). You learn what you need to know, and room is given for DMs to take Sigil and its inhabitants in any of a wide variety of directions. White Wolf REALLY needs to take some lessons from these old Planescape books about how to have signature characters that are fascinating in their own right but don't take over the spotlight from the PCs.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Some elements of Sigil as described here are a bit too modern. It's kind of hard to see how a city could get this advanced without, say, interchangeable parts, or have this much of a gap between rich and poor without triggering a real reform movement (the Revolutionary League doesn't count).<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

The main Planescape box set has a good deal of information on Sigil, but if you're planning to use Sigil as something more than a stopping off point between excursions to the Outer Planes then you pretty much need this book. It contains a detailed breakdown for each ward of the sprawling city as well as a few specific places within them. The nice thing about Sigil is that its always changing, so you can always add more locations around town if you need them and not have a player screaming about it not being on the map. Speaking of which, the map included with the book is pretty useful as a guide but some sections of it seem to have been scanned on a different scale from the others because when printed out the pieces don't fit together really well. But that's a minor complaint, really. Let's be honest, it's not going to ruin your campaign because some of the streets don't line up on the map. After all, you're getting a 125 page sourcebook for a third of what it cost in 1995. This actually goes for all of these scanned books. If you're so distraught by the piecemeal maps then by all means go to ebay and pay three times the book's original price for a copy of the map that may or may not be covered with seven year old coffee stains.
