This module does not contain a synopsis of the adventure, what the plot is, what the storyline is, nor who the main NPC's are. You have to read the 96(?) pages to learn who/what/where/when.

I searched YouTube for a review, to learn what the story was all about. The reviewer stated that there are problems with it, as it was started by Gygax, and finished by others, after Gygax was ousted from TSR.

To be honest, I will never run it. I have no interest in reading it, much less running it, after hearing the synopsis from a DM who slogged his way through it all. Sorry. It may be a "classic", but not in my book. Cheers!

The PDF is great, but the print version is not the same. There are many missing lines in the print version, for some reason.

This may be the most overrated of the so-called classic adventures for (A)D&D. An unfinished mess, much of it is the product of Gygax's latest attempt at random dungeon generation. And a big chunk of it - the elemental nodes - are there for the individual DM to complete. For something that says "elemental evil" in the title, it's amazing how little "elemental evil" has to do with the product that follows. If you're going to run it, prepare to do a lot of work to make it work. Better yet, write your own. Note that any DM or player who tells you how good this adventure is will then tell you that the DM did the work to make it an excellent adventure. As written, it's just an unfinished mess.

The cover printing was very dark, and the interior printing was sepia instead of the expected black. On the positive side, the PDF that I purchased with it had been corrected for the typos that are present in the scan copy that is printed. I love this adventure, but the printed copy was not very good for the reasons I noted above; otherwise I would have given this 5 stars.

PoD copy arrived and is amazing. The printing and images are crisp and the blacks are very deep. The scan has been cleaned up quite a bit, and the cover is really well done. My copy does have 'The Temple of Elemental Evil' printed along the spine as well. All of the maps are reproduced at the end of the book, as is the case with all PoD reprints Ive ordered. All of the maps (besides Hommlet) were one page maps to begin with, so its no big deal. Hommlet is spread across 2 pages, though thats not really a huge deal either as you can print the map out beforehand and piece the 2 pages together relatively easily if you purchase the pdf along with the PoD. The only thing that I see that is incorrect with this copy (and it was mentioned earlier) is that pages 115 & 116 are flip flopped; i.e. 116 with no page number is just before 115 which has a page number and goes on from there correctly to 117 and on through the rest of the book. Overall, thats not enough for me to take much of the overall rating, though truth be told this would be a 4.9 out of 5 for me. The pages being flipped like that is really no big deal at all.

The quality of the reprint is great, quite durable, and the clarity of the images, are more than I could have hoped for. I’m very pleased with the reproduction, only wish that other classic mods/classic booklets were also available in soft cover print, and not just as a PDF.

As someone that never had the chance to play the original module, ordering the PoD seemed like a high priority. While I still haven't run or played it, I'll comment on the layout and overall quality. My copy does have the title printed on the spine; I suspect this is something that is determined by the printing service being used, as these appear to be different locations and printers depending on your location.

The layout is fine. I knew the maps would be scanned and on pages, but it's still unwieldy and I suggest people use the PDF and a custom printer if they want fold-out maps or something. It's still totally do-able but caveat emptor. Also, like many of the paperbacks I've received through PoD, the book arrived damaged - it's relatively mild I guess, but it's still frustrating to pay $25 for a small paperback, and it comes damaged (significant bending in the center of the book, and a damaged corner of the spine). Maybe it's just me, but I feel like that's just unacceptable for what is supposed to be a brand-new printing.

The module itself is...not really what I was expecting. If you're intent on running it, you will NEED the errata that was released; I didn't get the PDF so I'm not sure if that is included in the download or not, but it's absolutely required, because the module as-presented has a lot of issues that DMs will have to work around. I understand the module has a legendary quality because of the author and his following, and it is certainly deserved, but this module needs work to be implemented into a campaign...though I suppose that could be said of all modules.

Overall, I'm slightly disappointed but I also wouldn't return it if I could. It's something I feel like I want in my collection, warts and all. As I said, depending on the printing service they send your order to, it's kind of 50/50 whether it will arrive damaged or not. Like my book has a significant, severe BEND, right in the MIDDLE of it...that's not okay. And this is not the first time that has happened. So again, caveat emptor. And if you ever have a choice between hardback and softcover, get the hardback, as those seem to show up in much better condition.

I own both the orginal book and scan of this adventure. I have hand drawn the entire module on large scale hex paper over the last year, while Dungeon Mastering it for a group of five. I would say I have a very intimate knowledge of this monstrous adventure. Overall this is a must buy for anyone intrested in first edition D&D. Pair it with the World of Greyhawk Fantasy Setting. Some encounters, clues and goals are not directly connected to the next room key and adventure path. This is a HUGE module. A through reading and a few re-reading's with notes is recommeded during play. Dungeon level three, four and the Nodes of elemental Evil require extra preparation before play. This is a classic " killer / meat grinder " dungeon if not played very cautious by the player characters ! The ultimate 1e challenge. Feel free to send any questions to me about this adventure, twitter: @jamessnapguild.

Excellent module for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. Going to run my players through it sometime, plus the Village of Hommlet is great to just insert into any campaign. Overall a great product and hope we see more scans of old modules.

There are a number of quality issues. The content is fun. This instance is, however, frustrating. There are several cases where an entire line of text is missing, but due to randomness of fully automated OCR, non sequitur sentences are left behind. I wonder if a full document then page by page word count validation would have detected where these pages are, and consequently lead to a higher quality document I know that the product before me is not usable.

Awesome classic. Hommlet is a brilliant set up for a campaign headquarters with stories and characters. Just the setting alone is worth it.

Worthy purchase of classic material.

A good read for a new-ish player to D&D (going on close to four years now). I am certainly thinking about adapting this to D&D Next.

One of the most fun, challenging and imaginative Greyhawk adventures ever designed. If ToEE is not the greatest Greyhawk module, it is easily one of the very best and is a must for any Greyhawk campaign.
