The Nephilim

I had the pleasure of doing some proofreading on this project. I think this is a voice to keep an eye on. He will make an every increasingly large mark on the community.

The race/class is well presented, balanced and interesting. The lore is well done. The creatures (monsters or NPC's) are rich in detail. The new magic items are well done. The art enhances the experience.

Great addition to your S&W collection.

Whispers of Starfall

I really enjoyed this product. See the discussion from "Dark Naga K" for my designer/publisher perspective.

I really liked the adventure. It is well written, and very polished. 10 new monsters, 3 player handouts, and 2 DM/GM handouts/summary sheets. 9 new magic items. All arranged in appendicies.

The read aloud text is offset with a blue background. It looks within a tone or tone and a half of the blue from the blue maps. A wonderful nod to the classics.

The maps are gorgeous. I would have loved to have a separate map/illustration book where the maps were a bit bigger. VTT fans would love to have maps that are formatted and suitable for Roll20/Fantasy Grounds (These items may be in the works. They haven't said, but since this was a Kickstarter, the focus easily could have been to deliver the pledged content, and work on the way cool extras afterwards.)

The adventure is a wonderful mix of the three pillars, Exploration, Interaction and Combat. Not a lot of people are publishing adventures with a significant investigation/RP components.

If you are looking for a mini-campaign. This is a great choice. Part 1 of 4 will take new players to level four. I have not seen the whole roadmap, so I am not 100% what level range part 4 is designed for. I am expecting it to be something like Level 9-10.

A Knight's Rest

A Knight's Rest

Art - They look good. Elmore is always a delight. I wish it had more.

Maps - One map, and one relational diagram. Both look good, some of the numbers/letters could benefit from being higher contrast with the background.

Layout - Very good. 2 column, optimized for digital consumption.

This is a well written short adventure. I enjoyed it. It looks good, and is fun to run.

Publisher's Choice - Fantasy InDesign Template
Publisher: Publisher's Choice Stock Art
by Kevin W. [Verified Purchaser]

Adobe InDesign is a beast. Knowing where to start can be daunting for a new user. This template managed my fear of the empty page, and got me started. It provided the starting place that let me get in and leverage the training classes I took in InDesign in ways that starting with a blank document couldn't.

While it is technically a Pathfinder template, making it generic OGL is very easy (as intended). I think I read somewhere it was built that way because deletions are easy, adding things correctly is more challenging. To be honest, get this while you can. A good designer will charge $50 to $200 to setup master pages and paragraph styles for you, and this template has all of that for a fraction of the cost. While the template will not write your book for you, or lay it out for you, it will help you clear a huge freshman hurdle.

This product and a couple of hours effort had my project roughed out and ready for the remaining art to be delivered.

If you are a budding gaming author, and want to use InDesign, this is a great start. I wish this was available while I was taking my training classes so I could experiment with it while watching the classes.

Fat Goblin Games is easy to work with, and puts out a plethora of products for gamers and for game designers. Their stock art, etc. is worth a look.

I suspect an investment in this will save the average author many hours of frustation.

T1-4 Temple of Elemental Evil (1e)

There are a number of quality issues. The content is fun. This instance is, however, frustrating. There are several cases where an entire line of text is missing, but due to randomness of fully automated OCR, non sequitur sentences are left behind. I wonder if a full document then page by page word count validation would have detected where these pages are, and consequently lead to a higher quality document I know that the product before me is not usable.

Amethyst: Renaissance 2.0 (Color)
Publisher: Dias Ex Machina Games

This is a great refresh of the original product. It looks great, and read well. A lot of errata and other updates are slipstreamed into the text. This is the first product of a huge update and expansion of the Amethyst line, including support for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition (when 3pp is fully defined and live) along with Fate Core, 13th Age and Savage Worlds in addition to Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition and Pathfinder.

The author and team did a great job with the original product and this refresh ups the bar for independent game producers.

If you want a science fantasy setting, this is one of the best ones on the market. It is versatile enough to accommodate most playing styles easily.

I thought it was a great product before Inkwell revised it, it is an even better product now. I am not sure why the other reviewers felt disappointed. I have never disliked an Inkwell product, so maybe I am biased
