Your guide to weird magic, encounters, and hags!

Gristlecracker’s Hags and Grimoire provides new mechanics, guidelines, and tactics for using hags, magic, and the esoteric in your Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. This guide is designed for all levels of play and dungeon mastery, and uses a hybrid D&D 2014 (5e) format that includes the best of the old mixed with a few innovations of the D&D 2024 systems that do not dilute the game experience.

Every aspect of fantasy magic is improved or introduced: covens, curses, familiars, hags, magic geometry, talismans, spells, and spell mechanics. This supplement is designed to help you make your future games containing magic and hags as simple or complex as you want it to be.

Inside, you will find:

- An adventure seed about a Book of Keeping

- 68 supernatural encounters

- New magic rules, mechanics, and variations

- Hags as player characters

- 112 supernatural creatures and NPCs

- 52 magic spells, with new tags: remote and moonlight

- 80 magic items

- Esoteragons (not just magic circles!)

- 28 toxic and intoxicating plants

- An improved and more intuitive Intoxicated condition mechanic

- 200 tchotchkes

- Professional layout using over 168 pictures on 262 pages

- No AI Art used

(Correction to Maggot Golem): I made a mistake while writing, editing, proofing, etc. the Maggot Golem. Its attacks should also do (3) 1d6 radiant damage. My mistake =). Thanks to all the eagle-eyed customers who noticed.

I admit this; I'm being picky. How can this product be added to the DMs guild on May 20th and last updated on May 19th? I applaud your use of the TARDIS.

Short Version: We upload it in "hidden mode" then when everything is ready we release it.
Long Version: Print on Demand adds roughly 3-4 weeks. So option 1: you release .pdf then you release POD a month later. Option 2: you upload the work but no one can buy it. Then you order a proof, wait for proof to mail, read the proof, then release everything at once. This time we waited until everything was ready at once.

Standard Color and Premium Color both use a thicker 70# white paper, which has higher page opacity.

The primary difference between Standard Color and Premium Color books is the process with which the ink is printed.

Standard Color – Printed with an inkjet printer on 70 lb/104 gsm white paper

Premium Color – Highest color quality with more vivid color. Printed with an inkjet printer on 70 lb/104 gsm white paper

Is this just a The Complete Hag reflavored in 2024 mechanics, or is this all new stuff that we haven't seen yet.

I took only the mechanics from 2024 that made sense to me. I'd say half of the book is brand new, the rest is fixed, reworded, updated, etc. I believe the original hag book is roughly 4 years old if I remember correctly.

so ... 5e (2014) vs. "5.5e (2024). It took us almost 3 years to get this massive project together. In that time Hasbro and WOTC did a thing. Whatever you think of the 2024 version of DND, I only incorporated the changes that made sense. So this book will look like 2014 with a few added ideas from 2024 but can be used in either. Specifically, I like the idea of putting a main cantrip directly into a creature's attacks. I used that. I also like the idea of listing Bonus Action and Reaction spells directly as an assistance to the Dungeon Master. But I don't believe all the spellcasting creatures should only have no more than 5 spells so you will not see that change.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
